Suwon Station room bar, chicken, beer & watermelon punch: Manseokjip
In short
Manseokjip Suwon Station Branch (만석집 수원역점) is a pub with mostly private rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building on the main street by Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. The writer had the whole watermelon hwachae (Korean fruit punch served in a hollowed-out watermelon, limited to 10 a day), boneless half-and-half fried chicken and a 500ml Terra beer in a private room, and the crispy chicken with the ice-cold punch was the standout pairing. For a summer chicken-and-beer date or a group get-together in a quiet room, Manseokjip Suwon Station Branch is a good fit.

How does the whole watermelon hwachae, limited to 10 a day, taste?
The whole watermelon hwachae at Manseokjip Suwon Station Branch is limited to 10 a day, and the watermelon is cut into pretty round balls for plating. Summer has just started, and when it's hot, watermelon is the best. It was packed with watermelon flesh, cool and sweet, and so good. It felt like watermelon meeting milk, sweet and smooth, and with ice in it too, it's so refreshing that you forget the heat completely. The portion is big, too: two of us shared it and we were full. If you've been eating something greasy, a spoonful of this hwachae is the best.
Boneless half-and-half chicken and Terra: chimaek
Next up is the half-and-half chicken. It's boneless, so it's easy to eat. It was crispy outside, moist and tender inside, and so good. The sweet seasoning was great too, and the tangy mustard sauce served alongside was delicious for dipping. The chicken-mu (pickled radish) that comes with it was crunchy and tangy and tasted good, too.
The complimentary side is chicken drumstick snacks (dakdari-gwaja). They're crispy and mild, perfect with beer. To finish, the Terra beer went down clean with almost no bitterness, so it was smooth. Chicken goes with beer, of course: chimaek! We enjoyed it all. I'd want that watermelon hwachae again next time.
