Charcoal-grilled mackerel and 750ml draft beer: Yeouido izakaya Sodam

Today I'm introducing an izakaya in Yeouido, Seoul — Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch, a Japanese restaurant near Yeouido Station.

I visited Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch, a Seoul Yeouido izakaya. From the exterior to the interior, it's a really stylish place.

Before the food came out, they gave us a hot-plate fried egg. It's nice for a light bite before the main dishes come — the egg was fresh and soft, really delicious.

Charcoal-grilled mackerel: big enough for two

This is the grilled mackerel. As soon as you order, they grill it deliciously over charcoal. The mackerel was fresh and meaty, salty in a good way, tender and so tasty. It's also big enough for two people to eat comfortably. There are bones so you need to pick through carefully. It's been a while since I had blue-backed mackerel and it was so good. Delicious even without any sauce. Eating it with draft beer, one whole fish disappeared fast. Good enough to eat with plain rice too — perfect as a side dish or as a drinking snack. Very satisfied.

Brisket and bean sprout stir-fry, with brisket ramyeon included

This is the brisket bean sprout stir-fry. Packed with crunchy bean sprouts and savory brisket, it was so delicious. Not too salty, perfect as a rice side dish or a drinking snack. They gave a generous amount of bean sprouts too. The bean sprouts were fresh and the brisket had no off smell. Paired with draft beer, we devoured it in no time.

This is the brisket ramyeon. It comes free when you order the brisket bean sprout stir-fry. Simmered in an earthenware pot, it had the savory flavor of brisket, plenty of crunchy bean sprouts, and a refreshing, deeply flavorful broth. Total soju food.

500ml vs 750ml draft beer: how big is the difference?

We ordered one 500ml glass and one 750ml glass of draft beer. The difference in glass size and volume is overwhelming. The beer was cold, clean and smooth — really good draft beer. Along with the mackerel, brisket bean sprout stir-fry, and brisket ramyeon, we ate so well.

We finished with a Fanta Pine. Sweet and tangy pineapple, refreshing and delicious.

Counter seats with a view of the charcoal grill, and outlets at every seat

Skewers and fresh fish are displayed fresh around the counter (dachi) seats. As soon as you order, they grill it right in front of you, so you can enjoy it fresh and warm. Sitting at the counter, you can watch the grilling live.

Except for the counter seats, every seat has its own individual outlet. Nice to charge your phone comfortably while having a drink.

Inside Robadayakki Sodam on a packed weekday night

This is the interior of Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch, a Seoul Yeouido izakaya. The place is really spacious, it feels like being in Japan. You can also make a reservation via Naver Reservation. The counter (dachi) seats are the most popular. I visited on a Tuesday, a weekday, and it was already full. I strongly recommend this as a Yeouido date course or for any kind of group gathering. I ate so well here.
