Yeouido IFC Mall tteokbokki 5x hotter than buldak: Hyeonseonine

Hi, it's G1, back from a Yeouido tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) hotspot! I went to Hyeonseonine in IFC Mall haha. My husband and I were looking up places to eat in Yeouido IFC Mall and heard this place is famous for spicy tteokbokki, so we mustered up the courage to try it 🌶️

Where is Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch, and how do you get there?

Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is located on B2 of IFC Mall, 10 Gukjegeumyung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It's right on the passage connecting Yeouido Station to IFC Mall, so accessibility was great.

If you take Yeouido Station Line 5 or Line 9, it's connected underground, so you can get there easily by moving walkway 👍

There's plenty of seating both inside the restaurant and outside, so even if there's a wait at lunchtime, it seems like you wouldn't have to wait too long to grab a seat! Since it's on the route between Yeouido Station and IFC Mall or The Hyundai Seoul, the flow of people passing by felt natural.

I imagine a lot of office workers come here for lunch in Yeouido IFC Mall haha. We visited in the evening, and people who looked like nearby company employees were eating together in small groups.

What comes in the Hyeonseonine set: rice balls when the gimbap sells out

We ordered Hyeonseonine's set menu! It came with tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, gimbap and fish cake broth. Normally gimbap comes with it, but that day gimbap was sold out, so it was replaced with rice balls instead.

The fritters came in a nice variety so we could enjoy a bit of everything, and the sundae was on the soft side too. With the fish cake broth added in, it was hearty enough to count as a full meal!

For lunch at Yeouido IFC Mall, ordering one set was just the right amount to share between two or three people. The portion was so generous that two of us got really full lol. If you want to try a bit of everything, I'd recommend starting with the set menu!

Is the spicy tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine really 5 times hotter than buldak?

The spicy tteokbokki, Hyeonseonine's signature menu at this Yeouido tteokbokki spot!! You could choose between mild, medium and spicy, and we went with spicy.

Hyeonseonine is apparently really famous for its spicy tteokbokki. When we ordered it spicy, the owner warned us in advance that the spicy tteokbokki is truly spicy lol. He said it was about 5 times spicier than buldak (Korean fire noodles), which made us pause for a second, but we still worked up the courage to try it.

When we actually ate it, it didn't quite reach 5 times buldak level, but it was still pretty spicy! I remember feeling heat rush up to my forehead right after the first bite, and reaching for water several times lol. It had been a while since I'd had sweet-spicy tteokbokki, and it was so good.

By pressing down the spiciness with the nutty-tasting mayo rice balls, we were able to finish it all haha. Of course, I'm someone who normally handles spicy food pretty well, so this level of spicy tteokbokki was a fun challenge for me 😉😉 If you're confident with spicy food, Hyeonseonine's spicy tteokbokki will be a choice you won't regret.

After we finished eating, sweat had beaded up on our foreheads, but even that felt refreshing somehow! I'd recommend Hyeonseonine's spicy tteokbokki to anyone looking for a Yeouido tteokbokki spot or a place for lunch in Yeouido IFC Mall!
