Thai restaurant in Sejong for a hangover: beef rice noodles, Thanon55

The place I visited today is one everyone in the know already knows, and honestly almost every restaurant in the Best Western Plus Hotel is average or better, haha, so I'm a bit late posting about this Sejong rice noodle favorite, Thanon55..!

Honestly, calling it just a rice noodle spot feels a little bland, since it's a Sejong Government Complex favorite and a great Thai restaurant too, haha.

How do parking and reservations work at Thanon55 Sejong?

Thanon55 Sejong gives you up to 2 hours of parking in the Best Western Plus Hotel car park •͈ᴗ•͈ Just tell them when you leave after your meal and they'll register it for you. Great access for families and for lunch!!

It's right in front of the government complex, so apparently you can't even reserve for weekday lunch, lol. It must be so busy,, which is probably why there's a waiting area outside..!

Thanon55 Sejong opening hours and break time

Thanon55 Sejong is open Mon–Sat from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a break time from 3 to 5 pm. Last order is 14:20 for lunch and 20:20 for dinner!!

Vietnamese restaurants sell rice noodles too, but Thanon55 serves Thai-style rice noodles. I think the shop started in Seongsu and did so well that there are already several branches in Seoul, and now one more in Sejong!

What is the inside like, and are there group seats?

The inside of Thanon55 Sejong is way bigger than I expected..! The layout has a half-floor you can walk up to, and even before going up there are already 5–6 tables for 4–6 people.

There was a table for 6 on one side that's like a private room, which would be perfect for a group. A great Eojin-dong spot for team dinners and gatherings..!

Go up another half-floor like this and there are way more seats!! We had already booked, so they guided us to a reserved seat like this •͈ᴗ•͈

You can order easily by tablet!!

Vietnamese chili flakes and salt are set out at every seat, so you can add more as you like. The cups are neatly lined up on one side, lol. Water is brought to you as soon as you sit down.

The cutlery, wet wipes and tissues are tucked neatly under the table, and everything was so tidy that I was in a good mood before even eating.

Lol, and I felt a breeze from above, and sure enough, there are fans (?) hanging from the ceiling, totally Thai style. It's the golden rule when you go to Southeast Asia, right? lol

This is the hall seen from upstairs~! It nails the Thai restaurant feel. Beyond the decor itself, Thai restaurants tend to be spacious and open, and this place is designed just like that, so I felt like I'd gone on a little trip, lol.

What's on the Thanon55 menu?

The Thanon55 menu is hugely varied: curries, rice noodles, pad thai, plus leng saep (pork rib soup) and even tom yum goong among the dishes! And here's what sets it apart ⭐️ it has traditional(?) Thai dishes like moo kratha and moo tod curry..!

Moo kratha is Thai shabu-shabu (hot pot), where you grill meat and then also get to enjoy the hot pot, so it's great for a dinner company outing, lol. The moo tod curry is,, unusual. Unusual but tasty. Anyway, this is an Eojin-dong spot where you can taste authentic Thai flavors.

They also have spring rolls, som tam (green papaya salad) and morning glory, so it'd be good for a light drink with food too •͈ᴗ•͈

Pad thai ₩15,000 and large beef rice noodles ₩15,000: how were the portions?

The pad thai (₩15,000) came out first!! The portion was quite generous and it was set up so appetizingly.

Then came the large beef rice noodles! The small is ₩13,000 and the large is ₩15,000, and I ordered the large because it's sad when the noodle portion is small. But just look, the size is no joke, right?

Extra cilantro is free at Thanon55

The real reason Thanon55 is a must-visit = free extra cilantro. So many places charge extra for cilantro, but here you can have it with no extra charge, which is so good.

Starting with the pad thai,,, and the shrimp in it are really, really plump.

Beef rice noodles with both brisket and flank

The Thanon55 beef rice noodles have not only brisket (chadol) but also flank (yangji) beef, and why is it so good? The meat is big, plentiful and not tough at all!!!

After eating for a bit, I loaded in the extra cilantro and enjoyed it together. Lots of places can't get the seasoning of the noodle soup right, but here it was just right.

The chili vinegar that comes by default was also so good with the rice noodles.

Pad thai needs a good mix, haha. The noodles were already seasoned through, so I just tucked the bean sprouts down so they'd wilt.

Seriously, this meat is so good that I kept turning on my camera every time I ate the noodles, lol.

The pad thai also has lots of vegetables, and so much scrambled egg and shrimp that it was almost hard to find the noodles, lol.

And the rice noodles with cilantro had even more flavor and were much tastier. If you can eat cilantro, please please try it ㅠㅠ

Is it because I ordered the large,,, no matter how much I ate, the meat never seemed to shrink^^

A hangover cure after a night of drinking

There were quite a lot of bean sprouts too, so I ate noodles + meat + bean sprouts as a combo to the end. Honestly I'd been drinking the night before and needed a hangover cure..? Eating the rice noodles, my whole body relaxed.

Extra side dishes, small plates and aprons are in a self-serve bar style, so you can grab more.

What rice noodle size for two women?

I thought I wouldn't finish, but we ate everything except a little of the rice noodles. It was so good that I kept eating even when full..? I wanted to finish the noodles completely too, and this meal taught me again that two women should order the small^^ Still, thanks to that I got to eat plenty of meat.

Weekday lunch waiting at Thanon55 Sejong

On our way out there was a waiting list like this,,, They said you have to wait out front, so at peak times it seems better to book ahead, lol. Thanon55 Sejong is very close to the government complex, so apparently it gets very crowded at weekday lunch!!

Ugh, I'm writing this while full so I don't forget, and the food still looks so delicious. As befits a Thai restaurant that's a Sejong Government Complex favorite, customers kept coming the whole time we ate. Even with fast turnover, guests kept arriving and the place stayed packed, lol. Yet the food came out super fast, which was amazing!

Great atmosphere and great taste!! And the price feels reasonable for this, Thanon55! I certify it as an Eojin-dong, Sejong favorite, lol. Highly recommended when you want a clean, satisfying meal near the Sejong Government Complex.
