Why do I keep craving rice noodles lately, haha? I wanted something warm and brothy, and it had been a while since I'd had Thai food, so I went to Thanon55, Best Western Plus Hotel Sejong branch, in Eojin-dong, Sejong! Noodles alone felt like a bit of a letdown, so this time I ordered a curry too, lol. I've been going to Thai places a lot lately, and this one looked really good too. Honest review, let's go!!!
Lunch near the Sejong Government Complex when you want Thai instead of Korean
Thanon55's Sejong branch isn't just rice noodles. You can enjoy all sorts of Thai dishes, so it looked like a great place to order several things together. When you're stuck on a lunch pick in Eojin-dong, tired of Korean food and already had Chinese, Thai is what comes to mind, haha. Especially near the Sejong Government Complex, when you want something other than the usual Korean meals. We crave Thai food regularly, you know~
What are the atmosphere and parking like at Thanon55 Sejong?
The Thai vibe you feel from the outside carries all the way inside this large restaurant, and since it's on the hotel's first floor, we parked easily in the basement lot. The atmosphere is really well done, haha. It feels different from the Korean restaurants or ordinary noodle shops I usually go to, so it almost felt like being on a trip, and you can tell they cared about every little decorative piece, haha. Being so big, I figured it would be very comfortable for a group, and because it's on the hotel's first floor, the basement parking was great and we parked with no trouble.
Ordering large beef rice noodles and shrimp curry at the kiosk
You order at Thanon55's Sejong branch through a kiosk, and this time I picked the L-size beef rice noodle soup and the shrimp curry. Looking through the menu, they seem to have pretty much every Thai dish, haha. I chose after some thought, and the kiosk made it easy. One soup dish, one curry dish! I liked the combo right away, haha.
Self-bar and kid-friendly extras at Thanon55
Basic side dishes come with the meal, and for extras you just use the self-bar!! The sauces you need are set out on each table, haha. The self-bar has plenty of children's tableware and there are baby chairs too, so I thought it would be great for a meal with kids.
L-size beef rice noodle soup: how much beef, and how is the broth?
Thanon55's beef rice noodle broth was refreshing and moderately spicy, and the L size came with a huge amount of meat, two kinds of it. I usually go for beef when I eat rice noodles, so I ordered the beef noodles again this time. It's great as a hangover cure, but also the best as a regular meal!!
I ordered the generous L size, so the portion was plenty, and the beefy broth was refreshing and delicious. A moderately spicy broth, totally great.
With two kinds of meat, slurping the noodles in the warm broth somehow makes you feel full and cozy inside, haha. Was it because I got the large size? Or is that just how they do it here? There was a huge amount of meat. I kept eating meat and noodles together and the meat just wouldn't go down, lol. Loved it.
Shrimp curry instead of poo pad pong curry (crab curry): how was it?
Thanon55's shrimp curry is a Thai-style curry with shrimp instead of crab, and the price was good and the taste was good too. When you think of Thai food, rice noodles or pad thai come to mind first, but you can't leave out curry, right, haha. I always order the crab curry (poo pad pong curry?), but this time I wanted to try something different, so I ordered the shrimp curry.
For rice lovers like us, a rice dish is a must! Having the brothy rice noodles and then a bit of shrimp curry gives you two different styles of food, which I love. It has that distinctive Thai curry aroma but a Korean-style, easy-going flavor~~ I mixed it into rice, scooped it up, and it was packed with shrimp too, so good!!
