Today I'm sharing my visit to Thanon55 in Sejong, a spot where you can try some unusual rice noodles and curry. I went wanting something a bit more special than plain rice noodle soup, and I found it — pork-bone rice noodle soup, which combines the spicy Korean pork-bone stew gamjatang with rice noodles, and mu-teot curry, curry served with crispy fried pork. Both dishes had such a distinct identity that they really stuck with me.

Walking inside, the exotic vibe from the exterior carried on naturally through the interior. Colorful decor pieces and a Thai-inspired interior blended together, giving me the feeling of a brief trip abroad despite being in Sejong. The whole space was kept clean, and the tables weren't crammed together, so it was comfortable to eat here.

What does the pork-bone rice noodle soup taste like?

First up, Thanon55's pork-bone rice noodle soup, served generously in a big bowl. As the name suggests, it combines gamjatang (spicy pork-bone stew) with Thai-style rice noodles — the familiar gamjatang look with rice noodle strands mixed in felt unique the moment I saw it.

I picked up the rice noodles with my chopsticks. I was curious whether the gamjatang broth and rice noodles would actually work together, but the combination turned out more natural than expected. Adding the meat with the noodles made it even more filling, and sipping the broth alongside brought out that proper spicy kick.

Mu-teot curry: crispy pork and egg curry

Next came the mu-teot curry. This dish pairs a smooth curry with crispy fried pork on the side — the yellow curry and generously portioned, bite-sized pork made for an appetizing sight from the start.

Curry sauce with scrambled egg in the mu-teot curry

The curry in the mu-teot curry had soft scrambled egg mixed in. The fluffy egg blending with the curry sauce made the overall flavor even smoother — the egg gave the curry a softer texture, and it worked really well mixed with rice.

Next to the curry was golden-fried pork, cut into easy bite-sized pieces. It was crispy on the outside and moist inside, tasty even on its own. I enjoyed the crispy texture first, then dipped it generously into the curry sauce for a second flavor — two experiences from one dish.

Crispy mu-teot pork dipped in curry sauce

I dipped the mu-teot generously into the curry sauce. The soft, savory curry soaked moistly into the crispy pork, and the harmony between the two ingredients really came through. The sauce itself wasn't too spicy or overpowering, so it was easy to keep reaching for more.

White rice served alongside the mu-teot curry

Rice, an essential part of any curry dish, came alongside as well. Piling the egg-mixed curry sauce generously over the warm rice and adding the crispy mu-teot completed an even more satisfying meal!

Which of the two should you choose?

The spicy broth and soft curry, the chewy rice noodles and crispy pork — each dish had clearly different flavors and textures, making them great to order together. I'd recommend the pork-bone rice noodle soup to those who like spicy, hearty dishes, and the mu-teot curry to those who love smooth curry paired with crispy fried food.

Thanon55 in Sejong impressed me by keeping the charm of Thai food while combining it with ingredients familiar to Koreans. The pork-bone rice noodle soup in particular is hard to find elsewhere, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a different kind of Sejong rice noodle restaurant. If you're looking for a special lunch or dinner near the Sejong Government Complex, try the pork-bone rice noodle soup and mu-teot curry together at Thanon55 :)
