Isu Station pizza pub: Pilsner vs Vienna lager and Ray Set, Raymond

In short

Raymond Isu Branch is an American-style pizza and craft beer pub in Dongjak, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Isu Station Exit 9, in a space that used to be a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant. The writer shared Raymond's Ray Set (4 pizza slices with fries and sausage) with a child and compared a glass of Pilsner lager with a glass of Vienna lager. The slices were big enough that one went home as takeout, and Raymond's pizza still tasted nearly as good eaten later at home.

Hello! It's Mamipick. Do you remember the old tonkatsu place that used to be here? I'd been there too~ I was curious what would move into the spot once it was cleared out, and a pizza place called Raymond opened! I looked it up and it's an established pizza place from Hongdae, so I thought, oh? That's worth trusting, and off I went haha

Raymond serves American-style pizza and craft beer made by a world craft beer champion, apparently!! Do you like pizza and beer together?? Honestly, I was watching a variety show's New York episode where the members hop around New York pizza places happily eating American pizza, and I thought, "I can't resist this one" and searched right away and headed over!! When it hits you, you should go right then or you'll regret it. Let me introduce it to you!!

The lunch set is cheap! The weather is so hot these days, right~ Cool off with a cold fizzy drink and a pizza set haha

It's a simple self-serve bar, and you can help yourself to hot sauce or peperoncino (dried chili flakes).

What's in the Ray Set, and sharing it with a child

We ordered the Ray Set. It comes with 4 slices of pizza, fries and sausage, and the lineup is so filling that I was glad we ordered it. And the pizza is seriously huge!! Just looking at one slice, I thought, "Wow... one slice would fill me up."

So I cut my kid's slice in half to make it easy to eat, and since I wanted to taste several flavors too, I kept cutting slices up and sharing a bit of everything~! The dough has real presence, as American pizza should, and the toppings are generous, so every bite was pretty satisfying. Having the fries and sausage alongside made it even more filling.

Pilsner lager vs Vienna lager: which goes better with pizza?

The craft beers I had at Raymond Isu Branch were a Pilsner lager and a Vienna lager. The craft beer is really good. The fine bubbles last a long time and it's full of flavor, and on a truly hot summer day, one big gulp feels like the heat just disappears ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

The Pilsner lager is crisp and refreshing and went really well with the pizza. The Vienna lager has more malt aroma, giving a nutty, toasty backing, so it paired especially well with the slices with richer toppings. Taking a bite of pizza and a sip of beer really lifted the mood, and I thought, "I'm glad I came here."

Taking leftover pizza home and eating it there

The Ray Set at Raymond Isu Branch is so generous that I saved one slice and took it home, and even reheated at home it didn't lose much flavor, which made me even happier. Next time I want to try another beer style, and after that I'll try the chicken haha

When you're craving American pizza and want good portions, good taste and good atmosphere, why not try the Ray Set combo~? That was Mamipick!!
