Uijeongbu bakery with a free financier over 20,000 won: Byway Bakers

In short

Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is a takeout-focused bakery on Cheongsa-ro 5beon-gil in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. Curious about the wakppu salt bread, the writer picked up a fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread for 7,500 won and a pick-your-own 5-piece financier package for 13,500 won, then received one free eat-frozen financier under the August promotion for spending 20,000 won or more. The salt bread was the reason for the trip, but the financiers won at home, with the kids eating two each.

I'd kept seeing wakppu salt bread all over social media and kept wondering about it~

The wakppu salt bread I'd been curious about after seeing it on social media

I live in northern Seoul, so I was looking for somewhere close by, and that's how I found out you could get wakppu salt bread in Uijeongbu too. So I headed to Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch (바이웨이 베이커스 청사본점).

My whole reason for going that day was the salt bread, but once I took everything home and tried it, the financiers turned out to be genuinely delicious.

Wakppu salt bread and financiers packed to go

Even the kids ate two each the moment they got home from school! Let me share this review — went for the salt bread, ended up falling for the financiers.

Where is Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch, and what are the hours?

Entrance of the Byway Bakers store on the 1st floor of Gyeongnam Building

Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is at 26 Cheongsa-ro 5beon-gil, Gyeongnam Building 1F Unit 109, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open daily from 09:00 to 20:30, and coffee orders are taken until 7pm.

I drove there and parking was easy since I could use the Womenpia parking lot. The store is more of a grab-and-go bakery than a sit-down café.

Visiting Byway Bakers in person for the wakppu salt bread

The reason I found out about Byway Bakers was really simple — that wakppu salt bread kept showing up on social media. A salt bread you crack open the crust of? As someone who already loves salt bread, there was no way I could scroll past that visual.

The first thing I saw walking into the store was, of course, the wakppu salt bread! Seeing the exact menu I'd been wanting sitting right there, I figured this was clearly what I came for and grabbed one immediately.

How many kinds of bread does Byway Bakers have?

I went in only thinking about wakppu salt bread, but once I actually looked around the display case, there were so many kinds of bread? Oh-ho!

From plain salt bread to mocha salt bread, ham cheese salt bread, egg tarts, Shanghai butter rice cake, and croissants —

Looking at each one, it felt like a waste to walk out with just a single wakppu.

What especially caught my eye among them was the financiers. There were several kinds of financiers too, so it was actually fun deciding which flavors to pick as I looked at the display!

Financiers displayed by flavor

Conveniently, there was a pick-your-own financier 5-pack where you choose your own flavors, so that's what I went with. Rather than a fixed single-flavor set, I liked that I could actually see and choose what I wanted to eat, and it also seemed like a nice light gift for someone~

Financier 5-pack and packaged wakppu salt bread

What I packed up that day was the pick-your-own financier 5-pack and the new-menu fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread.

The pick-your-own financier 5-pack was ₩13,500~ and the fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread was ₩7,500 at the time I visited. Paying for both together came to ₩21,000!

But while I was paying, I ended up getting an unexpected extra snack.^^

Free frozen financier from the over-20,000-won promotion

In August there was a promotion where any purchase over ₩20,000 got you one extra frozen financier. Score!!^^

I hadn't deliberately hit that amount to qualify — the items I'd chosen just happened to add up past ₩20,000, so I got to bring home an extra financier too.^^

The look of the cake is pretty amazing too, right?~~ ^^ I'd already picked the financiers to eat with the kids at home, so getting one extra felt like a bonus win! If your visit timing lines up, it's worth checking for promotions like this too.

What the fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread tastes like

Finally, the wakppu salt bread I'd been curious about. The one I picked was fresh peach yogurt!

Fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread

It's a menu item made with baekdo peach (white peach) and yogurt cream together, which made it a great combo for these hot days.

Salt bread topped with white peach and yogurt cream

Rather than just biting straight in, wakppu salt bread definitely has that fun of cracking the outer crust open first.

The outside had a crisp, shattering texture, and the inside had salt bread, peach, and yogurt all together, so you got several textures at once in a single bite.

Cross-section of the wakppu salt bread with the crust cracked open

Salty salt bread plus sweet peach and yogurt on top gave it a feel that was definitely different from a regular salt bread!

A bite taken out of the fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread

The whole reason I'd been curious about the wakppu salt bread was simply that it looked unique in photos, but eating it myself, even the process of cracking it open was fun in itself.

The Byway Bakers financiers were the real winner

Financiers taken out at home

On this trip out to Byway Bakers for Uijeongbu dessert, my surprise personal pick turned out to be the financiers.

Several flavors of the chosen financiers

Honestly, I only added the financiers as an afterthought while picking the salt bread, thinking they'd make a nice snack for the kids. The menu I was actually looking forward to was the salt bread — the financiers were more of a "let's just try these too" addition.

Financiers arranged on a plate

But once I got home and tried one, it was good enough that I immediately thought, I have to buy these again next time!!

Close-up of the baked financier surface

The outside was baked just enough to have a nice bite to it, while the inside was moist and chewy — exactly the kind of financier texture I love.

A financier split in half showing the inside

Above all, the more you chewed, the more the nutty butter flavor came through, which made it perfect with a cup of coffee~ I went looking for a good wakppu salt bread and ended up discovering what feels like a genuinely good Uijeongbu financier spot too.

The kids ate two financiers each

Financiers set out as a snack for the kids

It was great that I liked them, but this time the kids' reaction was really the best part. I handed them a financier each as an after-school snack. After finishing one, they said it was good and went and grabbed another. They ended up eating two each, haha.

I figured a 5-piece pack would be plenty so I only bought a light amount, but if I'd known they'd eat them this well I would have gotten more. Normally the kids' snacks get left half-eaten if it's not to their taste, but this time they said it was delicious and told me to buy them again next time! Haha.

In our house, this was a genuine snack-time success. If you're looking for good Uijeongbu dessert spots or have been curious about wakppu salt bread, I'd recommend picking up some financiers too while you're at Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch.
