Japanese dinner for two in Mukdong: yukhoe sushi at Yukyeon Sikdang

A dinner recommendation in Mukdong, Jungnang

I was wondering what to have for dinner after coming up to Seoul, so I went looking for somewhere new near home and found Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong branch (육연식당 묵동본점), a yukhoe and salmon specialist. Yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and salmon are not things you want to eat just anywhere, but since this is a specialist shop, I could eat with peace of mind. Here's my review.

Where is Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong branch, and where do you park?

Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong branch is at 932 Dongil-ro, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, by the E-Mart Mukdong building. It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Meokgol Station, so it's not hard to find. I visited on June 29, 2026.

If you're driving, you can use the E-Mart underground parking lot, and with 2 hours of free parking you can visit without worrying.

Come around the back of the E-Mart building and Yukyeon Sikdang is in the restaurant row. It's slightly hidden by trees, so you might not spot it at first, but look around the middle and you'll find it quickly.

I went around 6 p.m., and it was still bright out, which made it nice for a light dinner!

The restaurant is smaller than I expected and generally quiet.

It's tidy and clean, true to its Japanese style, and since it gets a lot of delivery orders, I could see orders coming in constantly.

The reviews were good too, so I dug in with high expectations!

The menu and our order for two

The menu centers on yukhoe and salmon. All-you-can-eat is available too, so I recommend it if you eat a lot! There are also salmon rice bowls, yukhoe rice bowls and sushi, so you can choose to your taste.

We ordered a yukhoe rice bowl (extra-large), a salmon rice bowl (extra-large) and 6 pieces of yukhoe sushi, a good amount for two people.

The side dishes are simple: white kimchi and pickled ginger. But the dishes themselves don't really need sides, so getting just what's needed actually felt clean.

How is the extra-large yukhoe rice bowl?

I ordered the yukhoe rice bowl in the extra-large size, so there's definitely a lot of yukhoe.

One bite and the texture is clearly different, and it goes well with the sauce, so the balance was great overall!

It's not too sweet, just the right flavor, so it was easy to eat all the way to the end.

Extra-large salmon rice bowl: any fishy smell?

The salmon rice bowl here is piled high with salmon, so I was satisfied from the look of it alone!

No fishy smell at all, and it goes down mild and smooth. If you like salmon, you'll definitely be happy with this one!

6 pieces of yukhoe sushi: fine as a side?

I ordered 6 pieces of yukhoe sushi, and each piece is big, so it's more filling than I expected.

It fills your mouth, so it works as a meal rather than just a side! If you like yukhoe, definitely try the yukhoe sushi!

Overall verdict on Yukyeon Sikdang in Mukdong

Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong branch is a good specialist shop for when you want proper yukhoe and salmon in Mukdong! Everything was clean and the ingredients felt fresh, so it was easy to eat, and the lineup works well for a light dinner. If you're near Mukdong, it's worth a visit :)
