A lunch special eel restaurant
What is Cheonsangae Jangeoga Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch?
Cheonsangae Jangeoga (천상애장어가) Myeonmok Sagajeong Branch is already known as a go-to eel spot in Jungnang. I'd heard plenty of good things from people around me, so I finally got the chance to go :)
The first thing I noticed is that the perks here are seriously strong!
- One free eel for pregnant women
- One free eel for guests aged 80 and over
- 10% off for police officers and firefighters
Honestly, I haven't seen this kind of event anywhere else. None of it applies to me, but it still made me feel good :)
How to get there from Myeonmok Station and Sagajeong Station, and parking
I visited on June 16, 2026. The address is 370 Myeonmok-ro, Jungnang-gu, Seoul. It sits between Myeonmok Station and Sagajeong Station, and by subway Myeonmok Station feels a little closer.
Buses run there too, but there aren't many routes, so I'd recommend the subway. Parking is difficult because the front is a road, so you'll need to use a nearby paid parking lot.
Is it crowded at lunch opening time?
That day I booked on Naver and arrived right at opening time. Customers kept coming in as soon as the doors opened, and about 30 minutes later the front seats were almost full. There were lots of group diners and quite a few office workers on lunch.

The lunch special takes ₩20,000 off the 2-person eel set, and the eel soup set is also affordable, so lunch looked like a good time to visit.
Atmosphere and seating for group meals
The restaurant feels upscale overall, but not intimidating, and it's comfortable for a meal.
The tables are wide and the spacing is generous, which is perfect for a group. There's also a separate inner room, so it can hold more people than you'd expect.
Lunch special and dinner set prices
The lunch special with 2 eels is ₩59,000. By today's standards that's pretty good value.

In the evening the menu splits into sets for 2, 3 and 4 people, starting from ₩79,000. Considering what's included, the price isn't a burden.

The eel is large-sized, so you can eat plenty without adding anything.

That day I ordered the lunch special with 2 eels and added nurungji to eat alongside!
Side dishes, wild ginseng and the self-serve bar

The basic side dishes here come out better than I expected.

They go well with the eel, and there was even eorigul-jeot (salted baby oysters), which made me personally very happy.

And the most unusual thing was the wild ginseng! You can eat it in a lettuce wrap or on its own, and the aroma was so good that it really left an impression.

If you run out of side dishes, just help yourself at the self-serve bar.
Do you grill the eel yourself, or do staff do it?
Staff grill the eel for you here, and that's definitely more convenient. I can't ruin it by grilling it myself, which I liked :)
I was surprised by the size when the 2 eels first came out. They're extra-large, so they're thick and plump all over. They grill it crispy outside and moist inside, just right for eating!

Recommended combo: eel + wild ginseng
My personal recommendation is the eel and wild ginseng combo. It brings out the aroma and cuts the richness, so it tasted even better!

Finishing with mushrooms, doenjang stew, nurungji and potato
The mushrooms are grilled separately and good dipped in the sauce. A doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) comes out too, and the seasoning is just right to eat alongside.
To finish, one order of nurungji feels like 2 servings, so it was a filling way to end the meal.

And the hidden highlight: the potato! It's grilled along with the eel and then taken out for you, and it's a real treat, so be sure to try it :)
