Daejeon octopus hot pot set with soju in Tanbang-dong: Chongil Nakji

Chongil Nakji, Tanbang branch is an octopus restaurant in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, near Daejeon City Hall and Lotte Department Store. Arriving right at 5pm as the break time ended, the writer ordered the 39,000 won yeonpo-tang (mild octopus hot pot) set with scallops, plus ramyeon noodles and 4,000 won soju, and the set also came with shabu-style beef — good value for two. A warming, restorative meal at Chongil Nakji for days when you need your energy back.

Gungdong kalguksu restaurant: seafood pajeon at Choi Jiseong's

Choi Jiseong's Seafood Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant specialising in seafood kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) and seafood pajeon (green onion pancake), next to the Yuseong Culture Center in Gungdong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The order was seafood kalguksu for two at 12,500 won per person, a tasting-size seafood pajeon at 9,000 won and a bottle of Chamisul soju, and the pajeon was so good that a second tasting plate followed. The lesson from Choi Jiseong's: order the 34cm pajeon at 15,000 won from the start.
