After staying home all weekend, the kids announced around dinnertime that they wanted to go out and eat meat haha. While I was wondering what to get, I remembered Wangchang Jokbal (왕창족발) in Sunae-dong, a place I'd eyed every time we walked past. I'd wanted to try it for ages, so this time we finally went :)
Where is Wangchang Jokbal in Sunae-dong? Location and basic info
Wangchang Jokbal is on the 1st floor of the Daeduk Glory Building at 11 Sunae-ro 46beon-gil, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, about 260m from Sunae Station Exit 1, so it's an easy walk. It's open Tue–Thu 16:00–23:00 and Fri–Sun 14:00–22:00, and Naver Place lists parking as available.

It sits at the entrance of the Sunae-dong food alley, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit. The place page says takeout, delivery, group seating and reservations are all possible, and it also lists high chairs for kids, which made going with children feel less stressful.
Wangchang Jokbal exterior and interior

The storefront is all glass, so you can see the kitchen from outside. Inside, the kitchen is open, and the wooden tables made the place look clean and tidy.

On the wall hung a frame called "Wangchang's Promise" (왕창의 약속). It lays out the restaurant's pledge about good ingredients and hygiene, and I ended up reading the whole thing.
What's on the Wangchang Jokbal menu, and how much does it cost?

According to the menu in the restaurant, the jokbal comes in two flavors, original and spicy, in large or medium sizes. If you're curious about both flavors, you can pay ₩2,000 more for half-and-half.

Takeout gets ₩3,000 off, listed as large ₩46,000, medium ₩41,000 and small ₩35,000. The small size is only available for takeout or delivery. Below the menu there's also an origin label, which says the pork, rice and napa cabbage kimchi are domestic. The meal menu is pretty varied too, so I think jokbal with makguksu (buckwheat noodles) or ramyeon-tang (ramen soup) would make a hearty dinner.
Ordering with the kids: medium original jokbal and rice

We got the medium jokbal and added two bowls of rice. The table filled up with seasoned chives, radish salad (mu-saengchae), kimchi and soup, plus lettuce wraps and ssamjang (wrap sauce).

The kids each polished off a bowl of the extra rice in no time haha
How does Wangchang's original jokbal taste?

Even though it's the medium size, the original jokbal came out piled generously on a full plate. It was glossy and shiny, and the kids kept urging me to hurry up and eat while I took photos haha.
I took one bite and it was so chewy! The more you chew, the springier it gets, so my chopsticks kept going back for more :)
Does Wangchang Jokbal serve salted oysters with the jokbal?

Yes, at Wangchang Jokbal the jokbal comes with eorigul-jeot (salted oysters in chili) as a standard side.

I put jokbal on lettuce or a perilla leaf, topped it with a bit of salted oyster, and it was a real treat. I think jokbal with salted oysters is a must-try combo at Wangchang Jokbal haha.

I also wrapped it with garlic and chili, and with radish salad on top. Mixing and matching different combos was half the fun.
Is Wangchang Jokbal in Sunae-dong good for a family dinner?
We went to Wangchang Jokbal in Sunae-dong because the kids pestered us, and what I remember best is the chewy original jokbal with the salted oysters that come as a standard side. It seems like a good stop near Sunae Station for a family dinner or whenever jokbal crosses your mind. Next time I want to order the jaengban makguksu (buckwheat noodles on a tray) too :)
