What is Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch like?

Pyeongando Restaurant Hwajeong Branch (평안도식당 화정점) is a gukbap (soup with rice) restaurant at 24 Hwajeong-ro 104beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea, Unit 108 on the 1st floor, in front of Deogyang-gu Office near Hwajeong Station. It is open 24 hours every day of the year. Groups are welcome, corkage is free, reservations are possible, and there are high chairs and pets are allowed, they say.

Pyeongando is open 24 hours all year, and it even gives you unlimited sundae, liver, lung and steamed rice, so it's a great-value spot!!! I'd recommend it to office workers near Hwajeong Station, people who want a hangover cure after drinking in Hwajeong, and anyone who wants a hearty meal with drinks!!!!!!

Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch was recently remodeled, so it's really clean!

What time does the freshly boiled head meat come out?

The head meat boiled in-house at Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch comes out at 11:00, 13:00, 18:00 and 21:00. If you time your visit right, you can get it freshly boiled and piping hot.

There are also new summer menu items: chogye mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth with shredded chicken) and chogye bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles). They'd be perfect for an office lunch.

Pyeongando says it uses purified water and carefully selected ingredients to make gukbap that's clean, nutty and delicate!! I think the richly simmered beef bone broth makes it even tastier.

Is the restaurant spacious? Can it handle a group dinner?

This is the inside of Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch. Pretty spacious, right? I think it would also work well for an office group dinner.

I liked that besides sundae gukbap they have lots of other dishes, like ppyeo-haejangguk (pork bone hangover soup) and galbitang (short rib soup)! If you visit in the evening, ordering the side dishes would be good haha!! You could also come at the very end of a night out for a hangover cure~ The 24-hour hours are really attractive haha

What should two people order for drinks and a meal?

Two of us went for a drinking meal and had the Pyeongando Set, small (₩34,000), at Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch. Here is the menu.

The portions were seriously huge and I was so full;;; But the value is truly the best... You can go back to the self-serve bar and take as much as you want, so it's great for big eaters haha. Even a single meal here fills you up!!!

What's in the ₩34,000 Pyeongando Set, small, and how does it taste?

The Pyeongando Set, small, came with pyeonyuk (sliced pressed pork), suyuk (boiled pork) and sundae! It was r-eally good, much better than I expected, I was surprised....haha

The pork had absolutely no gamey smell and was delicious. And that sundae was seriously good!!! As expected, Pyeongando is a sundae place.

Pyeongando's sundae isn't the glass-noodle chewy kind, it's handmade sundae with real filling inside like this!! I like this kind better than the chewy one, so I was very happy haha

How does the sul-guk (spicy soup) come out?

This is the sul-guk (spicy drinking soup)!! Pyeongando's sul-guk comes bubbling in a big earthenware pot. The seasoning paste is already stirred in, so it's spicy haha

Look at what's inside, wow! The soup is packed with meat and sundae! Plus lots of enoki mushrooms and green onions haha

Can you see those sundae pieces haha. They feel a bit different from the sundae on the plate, but they were delicious too!!

The sundae is good, the stuff inside is good, and most important, the broth!!! The broth is the real deal. It has a really rich beef bone flavor, and the seasoning paste was so good that I enjoyed it to the very end haha

This... I don't know what cut it is haha, but it's just delicious~ Next time I'll try the gamjatang (pork bone stew) too haha. The stir-fried sundae looks like it would be good too.

As I ate, the broth cooled down, so I asked them to reheat it. All the staff were friendly too, so I had a comfortable meal.

How is the kimchi at Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch?

Pyeongando Hwajeong Branch serves kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and napa cabbage kimchi as standard, and both were so good...? I heard they make it themselves with domestic ingredients... The kimchi is the most important test of a gukbap place, and this passes haha

If you're looking for a good gukbap place near Hwajeong Station, definitely give it a try. The seasoning was neither too strong nor too weak, and I really enjoyed it haha. If you like meat sundae rather than chewy sundae, like me, I think you'll love it!!!
