Sinnonhyeon gomtang spot: brunch of soup and rice noodles, Geumnyeong

Geumnyeong Gomtang Yeoksam Branch (금녕곰탕 역삼점) is a gomtang (beef bone soup) restaurant on Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil, near Exit 4 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a day with big temperature swings, the writer had a late-morning brunch of toryeom-style gomtang (rice warmed by repeatedly pouring hot broth over it) and rice noodles in the same gomtang broth, with kimchi and pickles from the self-serve bar. Geumnyeong Gomtang lets you choose gomtang when you want rice and rice noodles when you want noodles, which makes it a solid pick for a solo meal.

Jamsil burger spot for draft beer after an escape room: Daily Fix

Daily Fix Jangmi Sangga is a handmade burger restaurant with a New York American diner feel, in the basement of Jangmi Sangga Building B in Jamsil, Songpa, Seoul. After a day of escape rooms, the writer and a friend had a bacon cheeseburger, a cheeseburger, fries and two 500cc draft beers there in the evening; the juicy Hanwoo (Korean beef) patty and crispy fries stood out. Daily Fix Jangmi Sangga is a good fit for winding down a day in Jamsil with burgers and beer.

Konkuk Univ. ramen shop: brothless mazemen dinner, Sonoki Ramen

Sonoki Ramen Konkuk Univ. main branch is a ramen shop on the 2nd floor of a building in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin, Seoul, near Konkuk Univ. Station. The writer came in the evening craving a hot bowl of brothy ramen, ordered the couple set with mazemen (brothless noodles tossed in sauce) and soy sauce egg rice, and fell completely for the mazemen. Verdict: at Sonoki Ramen Konkuk Univ. main branch, mazemen was the undisputed star of the night.

Yongsan burger shop after an escape room: crispy chicken, Deombeogeo

Deombeogeo Yongsan is a handmade burger shop on Yongridan-gil (Hangang-daero 40ga-gil) near Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul, a premium fast-food brand that says it grills its patties and fries its chicken in-store, cooking every order fresh. After finishing an escape room, the writer and a burger-loving escape room partner went to Deombeogeo Yongsan and split a chicken cheese burger and a Deombeogeo set. Deombeogeo Yongsan is a good place for a filling meal after an escape room or a Yongridan-gil date.

Seohyeon Station noodle shop, cool-day sharing lunch: Gangnam Gyoja

Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch is a Korean kalguksu and dumpling restaurant in Dadu Plaza near Exit 5 of Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a cool day, kalguksu (10,000 won), bibim guksu (10,000 won) and gyoja mandu (11,000 won) were ordered and shared for lunch, and the chicken-broth kalguksu, tangy-spicy bibim guksu and bite-size dumplings made a satisfying combination. Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch is worth a return visit for a light Seohyeon Station lunch when you crave a hot bowl of broth.
