Samseong-dong Korean restaurant with 2-hour parking pass: Obongjip

In short

Obongjip Samseong Branch is a stir-fried octopus and bossam (boiled pork wrap) Korean restaurant a 5-minute walk from Samseong Jungang Station Exit 5 in Gangnam, Seoul. A family of four filled up on one Nakji Obong Special at 62,000 won (flame-fired octopus stir-fry for two, small bossam and jaengban makguksu) plus one extra fried rice, and parked a 1-minute walk away at the Samseong-dong vacant-lot car park on a 2-hour pass bought through the Moduui Juchajang app. At about 15,000 won a head for three dishes, Obongjip Samseong Branch is genuine value in the middle of Gangnam.

Full table spread of the Obong Special at Obongjip Samseong Branch

Took the family along and got a record-breaking compliment out of this trip to Obongjip Samseong Branch. With prices these days, a ₩62,000 set works out to about ₩15,000 a head — and that's not some cheap filler, that's a hearty meal of pricey pan-fired octopus stir-fry, obong bossam, and jaengban makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles on a tray).

In the middle of Gangnam, where land prices are famously insane, is this price and this spread even legal? ^^ Great value, huge portions, so so tasty — no reason not to go. I want every single person in Samseong-dong to have eaten here at least once 🙏🙏

Easy to find since it's on the main street, not tucked in an alley. Early on a weekend and Obongjip Samseong was already packed with customers ^^

Is the 62,000-won Obong Special enough for four?

Sign explaining the Obong Special set composition

Honestly, even while ordering I had my doubts. Obongjip Samseong's signature Obong Special (₩62,000) is advertised as enough to fill 3–4 people — with today's prices, that spread sounds impossible.

Split four ways, that's a ridiculous ₩15,000-ish per person... and yet, seriously, ₩62,000 really does get you a table piled full with three dishes — pan-fired octopus stir-fry, obong bossam, and jaengban makguksu ^^

Table set for four with octopus stir-fry, bossam, and jaengban makguksu

All three came in massive portions, and the four of us genuinely stuffed ourselves. We figured we'd order more if it wasn't enough, but ended up adding just one fried rice and calling it done! Did the quality suffer at all? NO NO! Every single ingredient was so fresh.

The banchan spread at Obongjip

As soon as we sat down, a full tray of banchan (side dishes) was laid out. Anything you run out of, you can grab more from the self-serve bar.

Wait, so if dinner doesn't get free rice refills, that means lunch does? That's insane value!!!

Flame-fired octopus stir-fry: the savoury star

A full pan of smoky pan-fired octopus stir-fry

Plump, springy octopus piled generously, not overly spicy, with a gentle smoky char and a sauce that clings to every bite with explosive umami ^^

Best part — you can choose your spice level!!

Octopus stir-fry made with two large octopuses

Two whole large octopuses in there, and the staff cut it up carefully for us. The octopus was so tender and soft, you barely had to chew ㅎ

Delicious eaten plain, delicious wrapped with bean sprouts and various vegetables too.

A wrap of octopus stir-fry with bean sprouts and vegetables

And especially!!!!! When you toss the leftover sauce with sesame oil and seaweed flakes and fry it into rice, it's a total rice thief. Ask and they'll bring rice and carefully fry it up in the leftover sauce for you ^^ That last fried rice is a delicacy among delicacies, but I was so full I could only manage one bite ㅜ

Top it with cool white kimchi and it's ridiculously good!!

Obong bossam: how moist the pork is

Look at the color on that bossam kimchi? Visually impossible not to taste good.

Red bossam kimchi next to a small plate of obong bossam

The bossam pork itself is glossy and so moist it looks like it'd bead with dew if you touched it with chopsticks ㅎ The bossam kimchi was cut into neat, easy bites — pair it with the moist pork and every mouthful is moist + soft + nutty, just excellent!! ^^

No off flavor at all, boiled soft and moist — pairs perfectly with the bossam kimchi and radish strips ^^

Jaengban makguksu: sweet, tangy and salty

The makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles) portion is also massive ㅎ Crunchy vegetables tossed generously with a secret sauce.

Tip: toss the noodles in the sauce first, and once the noodles are well coated, mix in the vegetables at the very end so it doesn't spill off the plate ^^

The sauce is nicely sweet-tangy-salty, loaded generously with crunchy vegetables — wrap it with the moist bossam pork and it's absolutely delicious.

I raved about it so much that the friend I went with mentioned she'd already been here with coworkers? ㅎ Apparently it's a go-to spot for her office dinners! Wait, how could you keep such a good place to yourself and not tell me about it ㅋㅋ

The place is spacious and clean, seating up to 75 people, plus a 15-seat private room — perfect for office dinners, engagement gatherings, or club meetups for anyone working near Samseong-dong or COEX. And at lunch there's even the free rice-and-banchan-refill lunch special! No wonder it's so popular ^^

Verdict: would I go back to Obongjip Samseong Branch?

Yes!! Yes!!!! Absolutely yes!!!!

Table at Obongjip Samseong Branch after the meal

I'm known for being a hardcore value-for-money person, and this place is an automatic repeat visit, regular-status kind of good ^^ In the pricey Samseong Station, Samseong-dong, COEX area, this is a wallet-friendly place where you can eat your fill without money worries.

Every single dish had that deep umami flavor and was genuinely delicious, and above all the staff were always smiling and so kind. In the middle of Gangnam where parking can cost more than the meal, even the parking here is affordable~!!!!! ㅋ If you're ever in the area, definitely stop by. Franchises aren't all equal — experience counts ^^
