Snow crab tanks and kids at Songpa fish shop Yeongjae Susan
In short
Yeongjae Susan is a fixed-price sashimi shop at C-10 on the first floor of the Garak Mall sales building in Songpa, Seoul. After the kids watched the live fish and snow crab tanks, this visit picked the small nongwangcham combo of sea bass, large flounder and red seabream off the posted price list and took it home in a cooler bag with a fish-frame spicy stew kit. No haggling, a 20% Naver reservation discount and a parking coupon make Yeongjae Susan an easy choice for sashimi takeout at Garak Market.

It had been way too long since I last ate sashimi, so I headed to the nearby Garak Market seafood market. Here's a detailed review of the seasonal sashimi I picked up at Yeongjae Susan, plus how to get discounts.

Where is Yeongjae Susan in Garak Market, and where do you park?
Yeongjae Susan is on the 1st floor of the Garak Market seafood market's sales building, unit C-10. I parked at Garak Market's basement 3rd floor customer parking and went up to the 1st floor where the seafood market is. There are so many sashimi shops in the market that having decided on one in advance made things much easier.
I walked in and spotted it right away by the crowd gathered around it.
Live fish and snow crab tanks the kids can watch
Walking into Yeongjae Susan, the first thing I saw was the clean tank full of live fish. Because they get so many orders, live fish apparently come in more than three times a day.

The tank was clean and the fish variety was diverse. Alongside the sashimi fish, there were also king crabs filling up another tank. My kids watched them like they were at an aquarium.

The king crabs especially looked plump and plentiful, so I thought I should come back another time just for crab. They also came in various sizes, which made choosing easier.

Fixed price list and four seasonal sashimi combos
Every time I visit a seafood market, the haggling wears me out, but Yeongjae Susan just has a price list posted, so I could decide calmly by looking at the prices.

Four recommended seasonal sashimi combos were listed.
- Jack mackerel combo (jack mackerel, flounder, red seabream)
- Wild croaker-sea bass-seabream combo (wild croaker, skin, swim bladder, flounder, seabream)
- Sea bass-flounder-seabream combo (sea bass, flounder, seabream)
- Wild croaker sashimi (wild croaker, skin, swim bladder)

I chose the sea bass-flounder-seabream combo, made up of sea bass, flounder and red seabream. Since it was just my husband and me, I went with the small size.

There was also an event where writing an Ineogyoju or Naver receipt review gets you free mixed shellfish-shrimp sashimi or mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). Mulhoe just for a simple review — not bad!

Cooler bag takeout, parking coupon and 20% off with Naver
After a short wait, they packed the sashimi into a cooler bag. With the fish-bone stew fixings added too, the bag was pretty heavy.

They also gave us a parking discount coupon, so we got our parking discounted and headed home!

For reference, if you make a Naver reservation before visiting Yeongjae Susan, you get 20% off. Pretty handy, right?
How the Yeongjae Susan sashimi tasted at home
Once home, I opened up the sashimi package. They carefully included sashimi, soy sauce, vinegar-chili sauce, stew fish, vegetables and stew seasoning.

Even though it was the fish-bone stew fixings, they gave us good meaty pieces. They included the fish head too, so I simmered the stew broth first.

I started with the glossy sashimi. Having usually only eaten flounder and rockfish, eating sea bass, seabream and flounder together gave a variety of textures that worked nicely together.

The slices were glossy and cut nice and thick, giving a satisfying chew. There was both a chewy texture and a soft texture, so I'd recommend this sea bass-flounder-seabream combo!

The sashimi was so fresh that every single piece was delicious. Getting a mix of different fish also meant the two of us could enjoy a variety of sashimi, which was another plus.

The sashimi's glossy color alone makes my mouth water again just looking at it.

I had put the stew on to simmer before eating the sashimi, and it was ready by the time we'd worked through most of the raw fish. With bean sprouts and radish included too, the refreshing broth made the meal even better.

I'll wrap up this post by recommending Yeongjae Susan, a sashimi shop in the Garak Market seafood market. The prices are transparent and there are plenty of events, so it's a popular spot for good reason — you won't regret visiting.
