Gangnam café with Mom, matcha pistachio cake: Something About Coffee
In short
Something About Coffee is a large dessert café that fills the 1st to 3rd floors of a building on the back street behind CGV Gangnam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a visit with her mom, the writer ordered a hojicha choux cream latte, an egg cookie and a matcha pistachio cake; the cream latte was less sweet than expected and came with a choux puff and ice cream, like a dessert on the side. Something About Coffee changes its cakes and baked goods every season, so there is always something new to choose on each visit.

Today I'm sharing a review of Something About Coffee (썸띵어바웃커피), a café that's consistently loved as one of the best dessert spots around Gangnam Station. It sits on the main back street behind CGV Gangnam Station, so it's easy to reach from both Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations, and it's famous as a big Gangnam café, so it's really popular too.

Location and floor layout: you order on the 2nd floor
The whole building, from the 1st to the 3rd floor, is run as the café. And strangely, you place your order on the 2nd floor...?!
There are seats on every floor, so there's plenty of room and it feels spacious. The interior is cute and full of atmosphere, which is probably why it's counted among the Gangnam Station cafés with the best vibes.

How wide is the dessert selection?
The dessert selection here is seriously huge! Just the cakes alone include cheesecake, matcha cake, Mont Blanc, gâteaux and fruit cakes all lined up, and the baked goods are plentiful too: cookies, financiers, scones and more.
Everything looked so good that I agonized in front of the display case for ages, haha. The menu also changes with the seasons, so it's fun to discover something new every time you come.

I came for a little date with my mom and ordered a hojicha cream latte, an egg cookie and a matcha pistachio cake.
Hojicha cream latte: this season's signature

The hojicha cream latte (hojicha is roasted green tea) is one of Something About Coffee's signature drinks this season. A rich, nutty hojicha cream latte is topped with a choux puff (cream puff pastry) and ice cream, and it looks so pretty!!
You'd expect a cream latte to be sweet, but it wasn't very sweet, which I liked. The toasty, subtle aroma of hojicha met the smoothness of the cream, and I could enjoy it to the last sip without getting tired of it. With a crispy choux on top and sweet ice cream on it, it was like a dessert in itself, and it was nice to nibble on between sips of the nutty latte.
Egg cookie: a cookie that tastes like an egg tart

The egg cookie tastes just like its name: an egg tart. It has an egg-tart-style filling inside, wrapped in cookie dough, so one bite gives you crispy cookie texture and soft filling at once. If you love egg tarts, this is surely right up your alley...!
Personally, what I liked most was that it isn't very sweet, so you can enjoy it without feeling weighed down.
Matcha pistachio cake: matcha ganache and pistachio cream

The matcha pistachio cake is topped with a bittersweet matcha ganache and pistachio cream. The ganache brings out both the bitterness and the sweetness of matcha, and the cream has a real, true-to-the-nut pistachio flavor, so the two flavors blend together nicely.
The pistachio flavor in particular really comes through, so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who usually loves pistachio.
Overall verdict
- A large dessert café spanning three floors, on the back street behind CGV Gangnam Station
- A wide variety of desserts and cakes
- The menu changes with the seasons, so this Sinnonhyeon Station café always has something new to discover
If you're still deciding on a Gangnam Station café, or looking for a dessert-packed café near Sinnonhyeon Station, definitely stop by Something About Coffee! ☕
