New York Apartment is an American vintage-style handmade burger restaurant near Hapjeong Station Exits 8 and 9 in Mapo, Seoul, and has been open in the same spot for 17 years. On a weekend visit right after opening, the writer ordered the New York Cheese Burger set with onion rings (22,000 won) and the Cheeseholic set with added handmade bacon and mac and cheese (29,500 won). New York Apartment pairs a back-to-basics classic burger with rich, gooey cheese, making it an easy pick for a date in Hapjeong.

Jangji Japanese restaurant: mentaiko udon & cheese katsu, Gomemui

Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive is a Japanese restaurant serving pot rice, tonkatsu, udon and curry in the B1 Food Street of Hyundai City Outlet's Techno Hall, near Jangji Station in Songpa, Seoul. The blogger ordered mentaiko butter udon with ebi tempura (14,000 won), mozzarella cheese katsu (13,000 won) and a mini curry (4,000 won). The mentaiko kept the butter from feeling greasy, the cheese stretched long and the tempura was crisp. Gomemui is a good place to stop when you get hungry shopping at Gardenfive.

Gildong Station gukbap: clear pork soup, ₩3,000 suyuk set, Sinjuokmi

Sinjuokmi Gildong Direct Branch (신주옥미 길동직영점) is a 24-hour Blue Ribbon haejangguk (hangover soup) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant near Gildong Station in Gangdong, Seoul. On a weekday evening the writer added ₩3,000 to the clear lean-pork gukbap (₩12,000) to make it a suyuk (boiled pork) set and shared a five-color jeon (savory pancake) platter; the broth was as clear and grease-free as clam soup, and the suyuk had no gamey smell. Verdict: Sinjuokmi Gildong Direct Branch suits anyone after a clean-tasting gukbap and a great-value suyuk set.

Seongsu risotto restaurant, 10-min Friday dinner wait: Seongsu Darak

Seongsu Darak is a pasta and risotto restaurant on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a red brick building on Ttukseom-ro 9-gil in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Arriving around 6pm on a Friday, the writer was first in line, waited about 10 minutes, and ordered the Darak omurice (17,000 won), spicy crab risotto (19,000 won) and corn gnocchi (19,000 won). The spicy crab risotto, much spicier than expected, was the best dish of the night, and Seongsu Darak's looks and atmosphere make it a strong pick for a Seongsu date or blind date.

Seoulsup okonomiyaki spot, beef Hiroshima for two: Hotcho Seongsu

Hotcho Seongsu (핫쵸 성수점) is a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and yakisoba teppan restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul, a 3–5 minute walk from Exit 5 of Seoulsup Station. On a weekday around 6 p.m., the writer got bar seats at Hotcho Seongsu with no wait and ordered beef Hiroshima okonomiyaki (₩20,000), tougarashi yakisoba (₩14,000) and green onion tonpeiyaki (₩11,000), which was enough to fill up a couple. Hotcho Seongsu is a good Seongsu and Seoulsup date spot where you can watch the cooking right in front of you.

Ttukseom Station cold udon: two bukkake bowls and inari sushi at Kosi

Kosi Seongsu Branch is a tonkatsu and bukkake udon restaurant on Sangwon 1-gil near Ttukseom Station exit 6 in Seongdong, Seoul. A regular of the original Maebong Station branch came on a weekday at 6pm, found Kosi Seongsu Branch almost full, and ordered ten (tempura) bukkake udon and tori-ten (chicken tempura) bukkake udon at 11,000 won each, a 5,000 won set add-on, inari sushi (sweet tofu-pouch rice) for 2,500 won and a sweet potato cheese croquette for 3,500 won. With chewy, springy noodles and tempura that is crisp outside and tender inside, Kosi Seongsu Branch is worth recommending if you want cold udon and tonkatsu in one meal.
