Jangji Japanese restaurant: mentaiko udon & cheese katsu, Gomemui
In short
Gomemui Hyundai Gardenfive is a Japanese restaurant serving pot rice, tonkatsu, udon and curry in the B1 Food Street of Hyundai City Outlet's Techno Hall, near Jangji Station in Songpa, Seoul. The blogger ordered mentaiko butter udon with ebi tempura (14,000 won), mozzarella cheese katsu (13,000 won) and a mini curry (4,000 won). The mentaiko kept the butter from feeling greasy, the cheese stretched long and the tempura was crisp. Gomemui is a good place to stop when you get hungry shopping at Gardenfive.

What is the atmosphere like at Gomemui?
The Gomemui Gardenfive branch has a cozy, warm wood-tone interior, with plenty of roomy seating.

The name Gomemui is a compound of the Japanese word kome (米), meaning rice, and mui (無二), meaning one and only. Apparently it stands for a taste that exists nowhere else! The shop has a comfy warm wood-tone feel, with lots of roomy seats.

Everything you need is set out on one side of the table, and I liked that the cutlery comes individually wrapped! Clean and neat 👏🏻
Gomemui menu and how to order
Gomemui has four main menu categories: pot rice, tonkatsu, udon/soba and curry. You order at the table, and I ordered one tonkatsu dish and one udon dish!

- ✔️ Pot rice
- ✔️ Tonkatsu (pork cutlet)
- ✔️ Udon/soba
- ✔️ Curry

How is the mentaiko butter udon + ebi tempura (₩14,000)?
Gomemui's mentaiko butter udon + ebi tempura costs ₩14,000, and it's a perfect match of salty mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe) and rich butter! The bowl of mentaiko butter udon comes with plump shrimp tempura.

Butter, an egg yolk, mentaiko and shredded seaweed sit on top of springy udon noodles. It's all ingredients with crazy umami, so you'd fall for it from the first bite, haha.

That salty, popping umami only mentaiko has! The butter coats the noodles completely so they're super smooth, and the butter flavor makes everything taste even richer in your mouth haha.

Is the mentaiko butter udon too heavy?
If the butter is too strong it can get a bit heavy, but the mentaiko, seaweed and bonito flakes add a salty note that pushes the butter's richness down. So it doesn't get cloying like you'd expect, and it's really tasty 😋

I mixed it up well and took a big bite, ahh 😆 It's an appealing combination where you get nutty richness and saltiness at the same time.

The ebi tempura (fried shrimp) that comes with it
The ebi tempura that comes along is fried shrimp! It's super plump and meaty too.

Dip it in the sauce and every bite has that popping shrimp texture! The batter isn't too thick either, so it was crispy and really delicious.

How was the mozzarella cheese katsu (₩13,000)?
Gomemui's mozzarella cheese katsu is ₩13,000 and it's loaded with cheese! The golden-fried cutlet is packed with mozzarella, and the pork has a slight pink tint and is nicely juicy, not dry at all ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡

The look of that mozzarella stretching out is amazing 😆 The cheese is so nutty, the pork is juicy and the coating is crispy, so the textures make it fun to eat 💛

It's good dipped in the tonkatsu sauce, and it's plenty tasty without sauce too.

Because of the cheese, it's better eaten while hot. The cheese hardens after just a little while, so blow on it and dig in as soon as it arrives, haha.

Does the mini curry (₩4,000) come with rice?
Gomemui's mini curry is ₩4,000 and comes with a scoop of rice underneath. I wanted curry so I ordered the mini one, and I thought it would be curry only, but there was rice too!

It's full of chunks of meat, so even without other toppings, mixing the curry into the rice is enough. The curry is closer to Korean-style than Japanese-style, and people shouldn't have strong likes or dislikes about it!
Gomemui at Gardenfive: would I go back?
Gomemui is a great Gardenfive restaurant! The tonkatsu and udon were so good. The fried food in particular was super crispy, with an amazing texture 💛 If you're hunting for a Gardenfive restaurant once you get hungry from all that shopping, I recommend Gomemui!
