Gwanggyo cake café: bear birthday candles & first fig cake, Café Diaz

In short

Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo is a cake café on the B1 floor of Galleria Gwanggyo in Suwon, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered an Earl Grey milk tea, a signature cream latte and a fig cake, their first ever. They also browsed the animal- and bear-shaped birthday candles and a display of cakes with their cross-sections showing; whole cakes cost about ₩50,000. The Café Diaz fig cake was not overly sweet and had a pleasant popping crunch from the seeds, making it an easy recommendation for anyone trying fig cake for the first time.

Café Diaz Gwanggyo has coffee, ades, milk teas, lattes and teas. I love their Earl Grey milk tea, so I got that and a signature cream latte, two drinks in all, plus a fig cake.

It's green tangerine season, so they also have homemade green tangerine tea. They say every cake is made fresh daily using only fresh Korean eggs. So if you haven't been to Café Diaz in Gwanggyo yet, definitely go!

Can you buy a birthday cake and candles together at Galleria Gwanggyo?

Yes, at Café Diaz Galleria Gwanggyo you can sort out the birthday cake and candles in one go. While waiting for my cake and drinks I looked around the shop, and there were the cutest birthday candles: animal shapes, bear shapes, plain candles, and even number candles! So cute, right? *Whole cakes can be reserved, too!

Café Diaz whole cakes: types and prices

Café Diaz has tiramisu and a loaded fruit whole cake, plus the super-hot fig cake, so I came for my very first fig cake. Whole cakes cost about ₩50,000. Piled with fruit, they'd make a great gift or birthday cake.

There's a fruit cake with blueberries, Shine Muscat grapes, orange, grapefruit and fig, and a fresh cream fig cake heaped with figs. Slice options included blueberry cake, cheesecake and chocolate cake. After a meal at Galleria Gwanggyo, it's a lovely place for cake and a drink as dessert.

There was also a blueberry-loaded fresh cream cake that real blueberry lovers will adore. Café Diaz displays its cakes with the cross-section visible, which is such a smart touch for a Gwanggyo cake café. When buying a cake I'm always dying to know what's inside, so being able to see it before buying was so convenient.

Next up was a chocolate cake that looks like rich chocolate flavor would fill your whole mouth. Diaz's slices also felt a bit bigger than at other cake shops.

How do the Café Diaz Earl Grey milk tea and signature cream latte taste?

My Earl Grey milk tea and signature cream latte came out, and the staff were so friendly that I was really satisfied. I love Diaz's milk tea and order it every time I go, and today it was delicious again! I couldn't carry two drinks at once and was in a bit of a bind, but they gave me a drink carrier, and the warm signature cream latte was so good, too. My mom absolutely loves Diaz's coffee!

What does fig cake taste like the first time?

I liked the combination of fresh cream and the gentle sweetness of figs in Café Diaz's fig cake, and the crunchy little seeds were great, too. It was my first fig cake ever. There are figs between the layers of sponge as well, and it wasn't too sweet, just pleasantly sweet. It was my first time eating figs and the texture was unique! If you've been curious about fig cake, give it a try at Café Diaz in Gwanggyo!
