Weekend Seolleung gyukatsu restaurant with Ramune cider: Gyuen Dang
In short
Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant on the 2nd floor of a red brick building at the start of the Seolleung Station restaurant street in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekend visit the writer shared one gyukatsu and one hambagu omurice with two Kirin mini draft beers and a Ramune cider: the gyukatsu portion was not large but the meat quality was good, and the omurice came with a sizeable hambagu (Japanese hamburg steak) patty. Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is worth a return visit for a light meal with a beer.

I needed somewhere quick to eat on the weekend, and I was craving meat anyway — turns out a gyukatsu place just opened right by my house haha!! So I made a beeline for the newly opened Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch near Seolleung Station 👏👏 Had gyukatsu, hambagu omurice, and even a cute little mini draft beer :)
First impressions and location of Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch

Gyuen Dang sits right at the entrance to the Seolleung Station restaurant street! You can spot the gyukatsu sign on the red brick building. I'd heard it was new and got curious, and the clean first impression already had me excited 🤍
How to find the 2nd-floor entrance

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building. Check the sign, head up the stairs, and you'll find the entrance to Gyuen Dang!

Interior and atmosphere at Gyuen Dang

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch has that clean, freshly-opened feel! The space is split into two sides and turned out to be quite spacious :-) Wooden tables and chairs, plus bold lettering on the wall, give the space a nice accent point. I noticed tables that work well for two, so it seemed like a good spot for a date or a casual meal with a friend 🤍 There are a lot of academies nearby too, so plenty of students around!
Menu and what we ordered

Gyuen Dang's menu isn't just gyukatsu — they also have omurice, rice bowls, and curry. This time we ordered gyukatsu and hambagu omurice! Plus two mini draft beers and a Ramune cider!

The table has instructions for how to eat both the gyukatsu and the omurice, which is handy for first-timers. If you're going with two people, I'd recommend picking one gyukatsu and one omurice to share instead of ordering two of the same thing!
Honest review: how was the gyukatsu?

🥩 Gyukatsu Honestly, the portion wasn't super generous. When it first arrived I thought I'd have wanted a bit more, but once I tasted it, the meat itself was really good!! To my taste the meat quality felt high-end, so regardless of the portion size, this was a dish I enjoyed eating.

Butter, wasabi, and salt too! I loved being able to switch up the combo as I went. Since you're not stuck with just one flavor, it stays fun all the way through 🤍 Rather than adding everything at once from the start, I'd suggest trying a little at a time to find your own favorite combo :) My combo of choice was salt and wasabi — the love.❤️

Was the hambagu omurice worth it?
🍳 Hambagu omurice The hambagu (Japanese hamburg steak) portion was quite generous and soft, so I really enjoyed it!! The egg looked firm but was actually really fluffy underneath, and eating it alternately with the gyukatsu worked really well together.

The sauce came on the side, which made it easy to drizzle on as you like. The seasoning suited my taste really well too!

There's also the fun moment when the egg spreads open just right lol. Moments like that make you reach for the camera automatically 🤍 You've got to record it on video, right haha! With the soft egg, hambagu, and rice all together, this is a great dish to pair with the gyukatsu if you feel like the cutlet alone isn't quite enough!!

Kirin mini draft beer and Ramune cider
🍺 Kirin mini draft beer It's so cute that it comes in a tiny glass! It's perfect for when you want just a light beer alongside your meal rather than drinking a lot. Taking a bite of gyukatsu and a sip in between went really well with this meal,,🫶

🥤 Ramune cider First time trying it, and it had a familiar-ish soda flavor! Kind of like a soda candy..???? If you'd rather have a soft drink instead of beer with your meal, this is a solid pick.
I'm definitely planning to come back to Gyuen Dang, this Seolleung gyukatsu spot, next time I want a light beer with my meal 🤍
