Korean BBQ lunch during daycare hours at Mangpo Station: Olheun Gogi

When you're raising a baby, a Korean BBQ restaurant is the hardest place to go. Many open only in the afternoon, so I never found anywhere that worked, but then I discovered Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch (옳은고기 수원본점) near Mangpo Station, a BBQ place that serves lunch and has rooms for company dinners!

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is within a 5-minute walk of Mangpo Station, so it's very easy to get to. There's a shopping-arcade parking lot right in front of the building, and the road side has resident-priority parking that you can use freely until late afternoon.

Inside Olheun Gogi Mangpo: private rooms and high chairs

My first impression walking into Olheun Gogi in Mangpo was how clean the place is. The tables are spaced far apart so it's easy to move around, and the bright, tidy interior made me feel the food would be very hygienic too.

How many private rooms for a company dinner near Mangpo Station?

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch has 2 group rooms. One is a private room with a single table, and the other holds about 4–5 tables, which works for a big company dinner. There are quite a few restaurants around Mangpo Station, and it seems lots of nearby offices come here for team dinners. With its rooms, Olheun Gogi in Mangpo is just right for that.

Is Olheun Gogi good for going with a baby?

What I liked most is that Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch has high chairs. I went for lunch during my baby's daycare hours, but with high chairs I think any time of day would have been fine.

Olheun Gogi set menu prices and side dishes

The signature set menus at Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch are the Olheun beef set (₩166,000), the Olheun pork set (₩118,000) and the beef brisket samhap yukhoe set (₩99,000). I tried the Olheun pork set. The menu had a huge range of dishes and I couldn't photograph them all, which was a shame. But it means you can pick from lots of options, so eat to your heart's content!

After ordering, these side dishes were set out first. The lineup was so solid that I was already impressed before the main dish arrived. Myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), a must at any BBQ place, and wasabi were all exactly my taste! The slightly spicy braised tuna and radish was so good that I finished it, even though I never normally eat braised radish.

What comes in the Olheun pork set (118,000 won)?

The meat for the Olheun pork set I ordered was ready quickly too. At Mangpo Olheun Gogi the staff grill the meat for you from start to finish, so there's nothing to worry about.

While the meat cooked, neatly plated yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) came out. It's set on top of sliced pear and looks so pretty it makes your mouth water. The minced garlic comes on the side, so you can mix in as much as you like.

The fluffy steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) was well seasoned and mild, and really good.

The grilled cheese came out last. Even just putting a piece of meat on the cheese near the end blends nutty and salty flavors nicely, so I enjoyed it right to the last bite.

Was the add-on doenjang sulbap (12,000 won) worth it?

Someone in our group always needs carbs with meat, so we added one doenjang sulbap (soybean-paste rice, ₩12,000). It's really loaded, from meat to crab, and the portion is generous. The three of us ate the Olheun pork set and the doenjang sulbap and thought we'd burst!

Olheun Gogi Mangpo: overall verdict

Mangpo Olheun Gogi was the most generous BBQ place I've ever been to, and the tastiest from the side dishes onward. I was so satisfied that it's no exaggeration to call it the best BBQ restaurant of my life.

The side dishes are perfect for making wraps, so even without wrap vegetables I never felt it was greasy or got tired of it, and enjoyed every bite.

Are the wrap vegetables at Olheun Gogi free?

At Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch you can order wrap vegetables for free from the side menu. I found out late, and it turns out you can order them for free?! I only noticed after finishing, so I ate without them, but I didn't miss them at all. If you want some, use "Free wrap vegetables" on the side menu.

There's a coffee machine and ice maker so you can have coffee after your meal. Since the staff grill the meat at Mangpo Olheun Gogi, parents with kids can eat comfortably. For office workers looking for a company dinner spot, nobody has to stay busy grilling or worry about it, and you can have a private dinner in a room. It's a clean, tasty BBQ place, so I really recommend visiting!
