Weekend lunch beef barbecue in Chimsan-dong, Daegu: Gogi 9dan

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is a two-floor Korean beef barbecue restaurant on Chimsannam-ro in Buk-gu, Daegu. After a Saturday morning at Bukbu Library, the writer brought their child here for lunch and ordered a half portion of anchangsal (skirt steak), a half portion of kkotgalbisal (marbled rib meat) and the 9dan set, with a serving robot delivering the meat to the table. With a roomy first-floor car park, a playroom and a self-serve bar with Starbucks bean coffee, Gogi 9dan made an easy family lunch.

Daegu restaurant with seed jeotgal seaweed wraps: Geumdeungeo

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired grilled mackerel restaurant on Deulan-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. The writer came with a close friend, ordered two servings of wood-fired grilled mackerel and added kkomak muchim (seasoned cockles), and found the best bite was rice, mackerel and seed jeotgal (fermented seed relish) wrapped in gim (dried seaweed). Geumdeungeo is a good choice for a clean, filling mackerel meal when grilling fish at home feels like too much work.
