Weekend lunch beef barbecue in Chimsan-dong, Daegu: Gogi 9dan
In short
Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is a two-floor Korean beef barbecue restaurant on Chimsannam-ro in Buk-gu, Daegu. After a Saturday morning at Bukbu Library, the writer brought their child here for lunch and ordered a half portion of anchangsal (skirt steak), a half portion of kkotgalbisal (marbled rib meat) and the 9dan set, with a serving robot delivering the meat to the table. With a roomy first-floor car park, a playroom and a self-serve bar with Starbucks bean coffee, Gogi 9dan made an easy family lunch.

Visiting Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch for a weekend beef lunch with my kid, the spacious dining room, easy parking, and generous side dishes made it a solid choice for a family meal out.
Being able to pick between ansimsal (skirt steak) and kkotgalbisal (flower rib meat), plus adding the good-value 9-course set, meant we got to enjoy a bunch of different things in one visit, which was satisfying.
Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch: weekend lunch after Bukbu Library
I'd come across Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch on Instagram and thought the meat looked good, so I'd already saved it on Naver Maps ahead of time.
Then one weekend morning, after taking my kid to Bukbu Library to borrow some books, lunchtime rolled around and we decided to check it out.
A whole second floor, plus a playroom for kids
The restaurant was bigger than I expected. They use the entire second floor, so seating felt roomy.
There were tables good for eating individually as well as group seating for larger parties, so it seemed like a good spot for both family meals and gatherings.
There's also a playroom where kids can play, which made it feel that much more comfortable for a family outing.

Being located in Chimsan-dong, it was convenient to swing by for lunch right after Bukbu Library.
There's parking on the building's first floor with plenty of space, so even on a weekend I didn't have to worry much about parking.

Ordering half portions of anchangsal and kkotgalbisal, delivered by serving robot
We ordered a half portion of ansimsal, a half portion of kkotgalbisal, and the 9-course set together.

After a short wait, a serving robot brought the meat over.

The meat came out on a plate with a mushroom alongside.

Kkotgalbisal: grill it slowly like a steak
The thick-cut kkotgalbisal I grilled a bit slowly and ate almost like a steak.

Because the meat was thick, each bite had a satisfying chew and you could feel the juiciness — the charm of kkotgalbisal really came through.

Anchangsal: chewy, with salt and wasabi
Ansimsal had a distinctly different texture from kkotgalbisal — I loved its chewy, firm bite.

Dipping it lightly in salt or pairing it with wasabi left a clean aftertaste.
Personally, I find that with meat, keeping it simple with salt or wasabi rather than loading on sauces lets you actually taste the meat better.

What comes with the 9dan set?
Ordering one plate of grilled meat lets you add the 9-course set, which came with a great lineup of dishes to pair with the meat at a reasonable price.

The hanwoo (Korean beef) yukhoe (raw beef) wasn't heavily seasoned, so you could enjoy the beef's distinct flavor and chewy texture in a fairly clean, understated way.
The pork kimchi jjigae (stew) was the style simmered down with well-fermented kimchi, so the broth was spicy and sharp.
Taking a spoonful of the warm stew between bites of meat worked really well.

The spicy jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) had springy noodles with great texture, and the tangy-spicy flavor was a nice palate-changer between bites of meat.
The chodaeri sushi had rice seasoned tangy-sweet, and surprisingly paired well with the meat. Putting the meat on top of the sushi gave it a whole different feel, which was fun.
Side dishes and the mul-naengmyeon our child always orders
The side dishes served alongside the meat were varied too.

There was a bit of everything to try: salad, seasoned miyeok (seaweed), cabbage kimchi, pickled onion, marinated broccoli, pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi), yangnyeom gejang (soy-marinated crab), and japchae (glass noodles).

Whenever we eat meat, my kid absolutely has to have mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth).
After the meat, cool naengmyeon really is a combo you can't skip.
There was also patbingsu (shaved ice with red beans) for dessert, a nice cool, sweet way to finish the meal.
After the meat and then the patbingsu, my mouth felt refreshingly clean.
A self-serve bar with Starbucks bean coffee
After eating, we also used the self-serve bar.

There was mix coffee and plum tea available, plus coffee brewed from Starbucks beans.

With ice cups and straws provided too, we could grab a cold coffee on the way out.

Being able to grab coffee right after the meal was a nice touch I really appreciated.
Is Gogi 9dan Chimsan worth it for a family lunch?
With a spacious dining room, easy parking, and a wide range of dishes beyond just the meat itself, it was a good fit for eating out with a kid. If you're looking up Buk-gu, Daegu restaurants for a comfortable family meal, this one might be worth checking out.
If you're hunting for a good Daegu beef restaurant, ordering the ansimsal, kkotgalbisal, and the 9-course set together seems like a solid way to go.
