Daejeon pork cutlet restaurant late lunch: salmon salad at Gatjidong

I had errands in Jijok-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, and ended up eating lunch well past the usual lunch hour. So I stopped by Gatjidong Noeun Branch for a late lunch.

Gatjidong Noeun Branch is located at 53 Eungubinam-ro 7beon-gil, 1st floor, Unit 102, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, South Korea, just 213m from Exit 2 of Noeun Station. The yellow sign caught my eye, so it wasn't hard to find. The restaurant name is displayed prominently out front, so you can spot it right away even while walking past.

Since the restaurant name shows up so clearly and it's right on the road, it was easy to find. Menu photos and information were set up in front of the store, so I could browse what was on offer before going in.

What is Gatjidong Noeun Branch like at 2pm, and how is the seating?

Maybe because I visited around 2pm, the atmosphere was fairly relaxed compared to the busy lunch rush. Looking around, there were seats good for a quick solo meal as well as tables for larger groups, so it seemed like a place you could sit comfortably no matter how many people you're with.

The interior was also kept tidy and clean, and it was a comfortable place to sit and eat.

There's a self-serve bar on one side of Gatjidong Noeun Branch, stocked with soup, rice, and other sides you can help yourself to as much as you like while eating. You just grab whatever you need.

There were also separate dishes prepared for kids, along with bibs and disposable aprons to keep clothes and food from getting messy. It seemed really convenient not having to pack all those little extras yourself when dining out with a child.

On top of the self-serve bar, there was also a separate snack corner, which felt like a nice little bonus to enjoy lightly before or after the meal. haha

Ordering at the kiosk and choosing a dish

At Gatjidong Noeun Branch, you order and pay through a kiosk, which made things easy. There were so many types of pork cutlet that I spent a bit of time deciding, but in the end I ordered the salmon salad and my companion got the western-style pork cutlet.

From the self-serve bar we grabbed some kimchi and pickled radish as simple side dishes. You just take as much as you'll eat.

The western-style pork cutlet arrived first. The cutlet, rice, and cabbage salad all came on one plate, and the portion was generous, which was nice.

It's the style where you dip the crispy cutlet in sauce, so it's about what you'd expect from a familiar western-style cutlet. It was a solid, no-fuss meal.

What comes in the salmon salad?

Personally, when I looked at the plate, the salmon salad at Gatjidong Noeun Branch felt like it had quite a large proportion of cabbage... Now I'm regretting not ordering the cutlet too... 🤣

The salmon wasn't piled on thick — it was more of a vegetable salad with salmon added in. So if you're ordering hoping for a generous amount of salmon, it's worth double-checking the composition beforehand.

Solo lunch or family meal: who is Gatjidong Noeun Branch for?

Personal taste and satisfaction with the menu will vary from person to person, but Gatjidong Noeun Branch has a spacious dining area with a variety of table setups, making it a good option for anything from solo dining to family meals.

In particular, with kiosk ordering, the self-serve bar, kids' tableware and bibs, and even a snack corner, it looked like a comfortable place to visit with children too. Gatjidong Noeun Branch seemed like a good fit whether you're eating alone or bringing the whole family.
