Cheonan café with mango cup bingsu and a Christmas windmill: Siyudang
In short
Siyudang is a three-story brunch and bakery café near the entrance to Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest in Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, Chungnam. After a meal, the writer stopped at Siyudang for mango cup bingsu (shaved ice) and an open sandwich, took in the Taehaksan view through the 3rd-floor windows and looked around the rooftop windmill being decorated for Christmas. Siyudang is a good Cheonan café for a relaxed break with dessert and bread amid mountain scenery.

Today I'm introducing Siyudang (시유당), a café where I spent a relaxed time looking out at the scenery of Taehaksan.

Siyudang lets you enjoy brunch, desserts and bread all in one place, so it was a great stop during a day out in Cheonan.
Siyudang location, opening hours and parking
Siyudang is a three-story café at 99-18 Hyuyangnim-gil, Pungse-myeon, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, on the left before you reach the Taehaksan Natural Recreation Forest entrance. If you're looking for places to go with kids in Cheonan, Siyudang has a big parking lot, so parking is no trouble at all.
Siyudang's 1st-floor counter and self-service corner
The 1st floor has a cactus garden, the counter, and a self-service corner where you can warm up your bread. Right at the entrance there's a wide garden decorated with all kinds of cacti, and a bright space with a prettily decorated Siyudang sign caught my eye first.

Next to the elevator there's a self-service corner with a microwave and a mini oven, so you can warm your bread up nicely.
Ordering and payment

The counter also has a notice for a nostalgic prize-draw event.
What did we order at Siyudang?
At Siyudang I ordered the mango cup bingsu (shaved ice) from the handmade cup bingsu menu. True to a big Cheonan brunch café, the brunch menu was so varied that I struggled to decide what to eat. The drinks were varied too, but I picked the mango cup bingsu from the "sweet comma that holds summer" handmade cup bingsu section.

I came after already eating a meal, so I couldn't order any of the heavy dishes. Next time I'd like to try the nature-filled set meal, the forest feast, or the 455m Summit Pizza.

What are the Taehaksan Eight Peaks breads?
Siyudang's signature bakery item is the "Taehaksan Peak" bread, which expresses the eight peaks of Taehaksan with a different cream for each. Siyudang is a big café right below Taehaksan, and it's unusual that they turned the mountain's eight peaks into bread.

The breads are named after the Taehaksan peaks. Picking all eight felt like a bit much, so I chose just three peaks. There were also plenty of croissants and salt breads.

With meals and bakery items alike, there are so many choices that it works well as a Cheonan brunch café too.
Siyudang's 2nd and 3rd floors: where to sit?
2nd-floor floor-seating tables
The 2nd floor of Siyudang also has comfortable floor-seating tables.

I thought the 3rd floor would have a better view than the 2nd, so we went up to the 3rd. This photo was taken when we were leaving and stopped by the restroom, which is on the 2nd floor. All the guests who'd been there had left.
3rd-floor window seats with a Taehaksan view
The view at Siyudang is definitely much better on the 3rd floor than the 2nd. The mountain backdrop through the big windows felt healing just to look at. The large windows open up the scenery outside, and wood-tone furniture and soft lighting add a comfortable mood.
The seats are spaced generously, so it looked great for visiting with family or friends. There are also cozy spots where you can sit around together, which I thought would suit people coming to a café with kids. If you're looking for places to go with kids in Cheonan, or a kid-friendly Cheonan café, a spacious place like this is a welcome find.
Siyudang's rooftop windmill, getting ready for Christmas
On the Siyudang rooftop, the signature windmill was being dressed up with Christmas decorations. I went up for a breath of fresh air since I could see Taehaksan's green scenery and flowers, but honestly, I went up to see Siyudang's signature windmill...

When I visited, the windmill was getting ready for Christmas, so I got to see it being decorated in a different look. It felt like meeting the next season ahead of time at this Cheonan brunch café, and it stuck in my memory.

How did the mango cup bingsu and open sandwich taste?
At Siyudang I ordered the mango cup bingsu and an open sandwich.

The mango cup bingsu has mango and soft shaved ice layered in the cup, with plenty of mango pieces piled on top. Each spoonful combines the sweetness of the mango with the cool shaved ice and leaves your mouth feeling fresh. Since it comes in a cup it's easy to eat, and it was good for sharing between two.
The open sandwich, topped with fresh vegetables and tomato, looked appetizing too. The fresh vegetables and sauce go together well, making it an easy brunch dish. Paired with the sweet, cold mango cup bingsu, the combination worked well.

Taking Siyudang's bread to go
I decided to pack up Siyudang's bread and try it at the hotel. Browsing in the shop, there were so many breads I wanted to take along with the desserts that choosing was fun. The types of bread and remaining quantities can vary depending on when you visit, so keep that in mind.

Siyudang let us enjoy brunch, bingsu and bread in a spacious interior and look around the rooftop scenery too. On a day when you're looking for a tasty café in Cheonan or craving brunch at a large Cheonan café, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to relax with a view of Taehaksan.
