Wonju restaurant off Munmak IC: jjusaeu for two plus grilled ribs
In short
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a Korean restaurant serving jjukkumi (baby octopus) and arrowroot naengmyeon (cold noodles) on Yeowon-ro in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon. Arriving right after the 15:00–17:00 break on a Wonju trip, the writer ordered jjusaeu for two (baby octopus plus shrimp) with a side of flame-grilled ribs, along with icy muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth) and bibimbap topped with sea urchin roe. There was no room left for the arrowroot naengmyeon, but one minute from Munmak IC, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is an easy meal to slot into a road trip.

While traveling around Wonju, we stopped in Munmak to eat at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미). On a trip, the route matters, but picking a place where you can eat a solid, satisfying meal matters just as much.

It's one minute from Munmak IC, so it's easy to stop by right at the start or end of a trip — you can be seated and eating within a minute of exiting the highway.
With a lot big enough for large buses and space optimized for group dinners of up to 60, parking is one less thing to worry about when visiting as a group.
This is a place worth remembering as a Wonju restaurant, since you can enjoy spicy jjukkumi (octopus) and cool naengmyeon (cold noodles) together.

It's close enough to Munmak IC that it was easy to drop in mid-drive, and I'd say it's a decent option for anyone hunting for restaurants near Sogeumsan or Oak Valley. It's worth adding to the route when looking for somewhere to eat near the Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge or Ganhyeon Recreation Area.

The menu board at the entrance and the best time to arrive
Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi has its menu posted right at the entrance, which makes it convenient to more or less decide before you even walk in.
Jjukkumi-bokkeum (stir-fried octopus), jjusam, jjusaeu, and jjusamsae are all explained in detail.
We arrived right as break time ended, and we were the first customers.
A little while later, more customers kept trickling in in twos and threes.

Jjusaeu for two: two ways to eat the octopus and shrimp
We ordered the jjusaeu for two (jjukkumi and shrimp).
The tip for enjoying Singi's jjukkumi to the fullest!!

The board explains two ways to eat the jjukkumi well — wrapped in lettuce, or mixed with rice — but honestly, it's delicious either way.

They're also running an event where a photo review gets you a plate of dumplings, or udon noodles plus a drink, or two drinks.
The spice level wasn't overwhelming — more of a heat you keep reaching back for — which made it great paired with rice.

Icy muksabal and bibimbap with sea urchin roe
The muksabal (acorn jelly in broth) that came as a basic side dish had a layer of ice floating on top — really refreshing and delicious. Later, eating it alongside the jjusaeu, it seemed to mellow out the spice too.

Jjusae lets you taste jjukkumi and plump shrimp together in one dish, so it was an easy pick — and the spicy sauce with a hint of char woke up my appetite right away.

We put the jjusae in first, then added bean sprouts, seaweed flakes, pickled radish, and sea urchin roe to make a bibimbap (mixed rice bowl).

Jjukkumi apparently pairs wonderfully with naengmyeon, but unfortunately we'd already ordered the grilled ribs and were far too full to try the noodles. The jjukkumi was chewy and the shrimp bouncy, so even within one dish there was fun in picking between the two.

Was the flame-grilled rib side worth adding?
We also added the grilled rib side dish. The ribs, with their smoky char, were coated in a sweet-savory sauce that worked really well with the spicy jjukkumi.

A bite of spicy jjukkumi followed by a piece of grilled rib made for a satisfying, full spread.

If you're coming with family or a bigger group, ordering both jjukkumi and ribs to share seems like a great idea. Looking over at the naengmyeon on the next table, the broth was full of ice, looking cool right down to the last drop.

Delivery orders and the 8-dish self-serve corner
While we were eating, delivery orders kept coming in. It seemed like plenty of people around Munmak turn to this jjukkumi restaurant. Between the steady stream of dine-in customers and the constant delivery orders for people eating at home or at their accommodation, it gave me even more confidence in the place.
Self-serve corner
The neatly maintained self-serve corner had 8 side dishes ready to go, so you could freely help yourself to whatever extra banchan you wanted.
Next visit: saving room for the arrowroot naengmyeon
I'd recommend Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi, a Munmak restaurant known for its noodles, to travelers wanting a generous, good-value meal that hits the spot. True to its name, the arrowroot naengmyeon is a dish you can't skip, so next time I want to properly pair it with the meal.
A bite of cool naengmyeon after the spicy jjukkumi seems like it would clean the palate perfectly. That's why this place also caught my attention as a spot for anyone hunting for naengmyeon in Munmak — being able to enjoy jjukkumi and naengmyeon in one place is a real plus.

Deciding what to eat on a trip is always a struggle, but if you're craving something spicy, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi could be a great choice. Keep it in mind when you're looking for a hearty meal in Munmak, whether that means the naengmyeon or the jjukkumi. With enough menu variety for a Wonju group meal, it's a good fit for larger visits too, and it suits a stop before or after a trip to Sogeumsan or Oak Valley. Next time, I've decided to try the ultimate combo — the cool naengmyeon meeting the spicy jjukkumi.
