Yongin Korean restaurant for beef galbi-jjim: Sotbap Hansang

In short

Sotbap Hansang is a Korean restaurant in Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, where I ate a three-person beef galbi-jjim set with my children. The ₩28,000-per-person set included sotbap, grilled flounder, japchae, and other side dishes; the galbi-jjim was slightly spicy, and jeon was only served with soy-marinated crab.

What are the price and dishes in the beef galbi-jjim set?

Beef galbi-jjim takes a lot of work to make at home, so I sometimes eat it out. This time, I ordered a three-person beef galbi-jjim set.

The beef galbi-jjim set costs ₩28,000 per person, so our three-person order came to ₩84,000. The set includes sotbap, stone-pot rice. I was told that the side dishes vary slightly depending on which set you order.

What side dishes are available for children, and what is at the self-service bar?

The self-service bar on one side of the restaurant had children’s tableware, miyeok-guk (seaweed soup), pumpkin porridge, and additional side dishes. The soup and porridge were available to serve yourself, and they were nice to have before the meal. They tasted better than I expected, too.

There were more side dishes for the children than I expected. Grilled flounder came with the meal, and there were also japchae and gim (dried seaweed), which worked well with rice. I thought jeon (savory pancakes) would be served too, but I was told it comes with an order of soy-marinated crab, so it was not included in our meal.

They gave us two generous plates of japchae during this visit. I think they did that because we had two children.

How did the beef galbi-jjim and sotbap taste?

The beef galbi-jjim came off the bones easily and was slightly spicy, which suited my taste. The sotbap was served warm, and I enjoyed it.

At the end, I set some rice aside and made nurungji (scorched rice) in the pot. The children liked the nurungji, too.

Can you eat or take home the soy-marinated crab?

Soy-marinated crab was also being sold for takeaway. While we were eating, I noticed that most of the tables except ours were having soy-marinated crab. I did not try it this time, but I would like to order it on my next visit.

Is there a place to relax after the meal?

There was a rest area right next to the counter. It was spacious, and an Americano was listed at ₩1,000, so it seemed like a nice place to have a coffee after the meal.

We ate at around 7 p.m., and the outside night view was also pleasant to look at.

There were side dishes the children could eat, and the meal also came with sotbap, so I thought it worked well for a family meal. I also thought it would be worth visiting when I wanted to bring my parents out for a Korean meal.
