My kids love bread so much that on weekends our family always picks up something tasty to eat. This time we went to Grid Cafe, a famous dessert spot in Songpa!

First look at Grid Cafe in Songpa

I'd heard the place is so well known that many popular breads sell out if you come in the afternoon. I went with high expectations, and sure enough, there's a reason it's popular. 🤍

What is Grid Cafe in Songpa like?

Grid Cafe is a dessert café on Macheon-ro in Songpa, famous for its salt bread and egg tarts. I came across it while looking for a good bakery in Songpa, and since people say the salt bread and egg tarts are the thing to get, I really wanted to try it.

Inside, the interior is stylish and the atmosphere is lovely. It's not just a place to grab bread to go; it looked like a nice spot to sit down with coffee and dessert too.

Turns out it has even been featured on "Jangsa-ui Sin" (a Korean TV show about business owners). That made me even more curious about the taste!

We got to Grid Cafe around 2 PM, and a lot of the popular breads were already gone. There were so many things on the shelves I wanted to try, and it was a real shame that some were sold out.

The shop also displays a timetable for when the breads come out, so please check it before you go. If there's a particular bread you want, I recommend going as early as you can! Luckily, we could still buy Grid Cafe's signature salt bread and tarts.

Plain salt bread vs. crack salt bread: what's the difference?

Grid Cafe has plain salt bread and crack salt bread, and the crack one has a hard, crisp crust like a baguette. I was curious about the difference, so I picked one of each. 🤭

First, the plain salt bread! It had that savory, salty charm salt bread is known for. A bakery has to nail the basics to be truly great, right?

And then the crack salt bread I'd been looking forward to! The texture is definitely different from the plain one. The crust is hard and crisp like a baguette, with a lovely savory, salty flavor. If the plain salt bread is a familiar charm, the crack salt bread feels special for its texture! It was fun eating the two side by side to compare.

Is the garlic salt bread at Grid Cafe a must-try?

The bread I really enjoyed at Grid Cafe was the garlic salt bread. Doesn't it look delicious from the start?

The outside is generously coated in garlic sauce, so you can almost smell the garlic just by looking at it. But the inside is even more surprising. 🤗

The garlic sauce isn't just on the outside; the flavor is rich all the way through, and it was so good. Savory salt bread with a lightly sweet garlic sauce? That's a combo that's hard to get wrong. If you like garlic bread, definitely give it a try. 😋

How is the egg tart at Grid Cafe?

Takeout egg tart and chocolate tart from Grid Cafe

The egg tart at Grid Cafe is quite big, and the filling is moist and melts in your mouth. Tarts are as famous here as the salt bread, and I took home an egg tart and a chocolate tart together.

I liked the generous size right away. From the first bite, the soft texture of the egg tart was wonderful. The filling is moist and tender, and it melts in your mouth! The sweet and savory flavors blend well, and I kept reaching for more.

Is the chocolate tart at Grid Cafe chocolate all the way through?

The chocolate tart at Grid Cafe is filled with chocolate not just on top but deep inside. If you love chocolate, keep an eye on this one.

Look at this cross-section! The chocolate isn't only on top; it fills the tart deep inside. Wherever you bite, you get rich chocolate flavor, and I was really satisfied. The soft, deep chocolate flavor made it perfect as a dessert. Both kinds of tart were better than I expected. 🤎

Grid Cafe is a place where I could see why it's so popular.

  • A café space with a stylish atmosphere
  • Plain or crack salt bread, depending on your taste
  • Garlic salt bread full of garlic flavor
