Camping-seat Japanese in Munjeong: mazesoba & katsu sets, Gome Mui

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a pot rice and Japanese restaurant on the B1 floor of Tera Tower at Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. At Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong, which has camping-theme seats, the writer ordered both the spring herb wild sea bream pot rice and the mazesoba as tonkatsu sets: the tonkatsu portion was generous, the sea bream pot rice was clean-tasting with no fishiness, and the nurungji (scorched rice) made a satisfying finish. Verdict: Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is worth a return visit for a pot rice lunch near Munjeong Station.

Seohyeon Station healthy spot, 2 lemongrass beef plates to go: Prefers

Prefers Diet Food Bundang Seohyeon is a healthy-food restaurant right in front of AK Plaza at Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The writer used the kiosk to order two Beef Plates (12,900 won each) to go with lemongrass sauce and found the beef moist and tender, the vegetables fresh and the portions generous. Prefers Diet Food Bundang Seohyeon is a good pick for a filling, healthy solo meal near Seohyeon Station.

Munjeong poke shop: shredded chicken breast with sriracha, Olla Poke

Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is a poke restaurant and the flagship of Olla Poke, on basement level 1 of Terra Tower A in Munjeong-dong, Songpa, Seoul. At lunchtime the writer ordered two chicken breast poke bowls to go from the kiosk, one salad-only and one 50/50 salad and rice. The writer was pleased with the sriracha sauce, the finely shredded chicken breast and the generous portions. Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is a healthy-food spot the writer has returned to many times for both flavor and fullness.

Songpa dessert café: garlic salt bread and chocolate tart, Grid Cafe

Grid Cafe is a dessert café on Macheon-ro in Songpa, Seoul, near Ogeum Station, known for its salt bread and tarts. The writer visited around 2 PM, when some popular breads had already sold out, and took home plain, crack and garlic salt bread plus an egg tart and a chocolate tart to compare. At Grid Cafe the garlic salt bread and the chocolate tart, rich all the way through, stood out, so check the bread timetable and go early for the bread you want.

Misa gopchang restaurant: late-night takeout with radish wraps, Gobuni

Gobuni Gopchang Hanam Misa Station Branch (곱분이곱창 하남미사역점) is a gopchang (Korean intestine dish) restaurant on the 1st floor of Star Park, 87 Misagangbyeonnam-ro, Hanam. After putting the kids to bed, the blogger picked up sundae gopchang (spicy stir-fried intestines with Korean blood sausage) to share with her husband as a late-night snack. She got 2,000 won off for takeout and ate the spicy dish, generous with sundae and glass noodles, with pickled radish wraps (mussam), perilla leaves, mayonnaise and beer. For a couple's late-night gopchang at home near Misa, Gobuni Gopchang Hanam Misa Station Branch's sundae gopchang was a satisfying choice.

Gwacheon duck BBQ holiday dinner after Seoul Land: Deo Chadol

Deo Chadol (더차돌) is a duck BBQ restaurant in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, about 10 minutes by car from Seoul Land. On a public holiday, after a full day at Seoul Land with two kids, the writer's family had 3 servings of sliced duck roast (ori-roseu) for dinner, and the grilling cheese from a receipt-review event was the kids' favorite. With ample parking, high chairs, kids' tableware and private rooms, Deo Chadol is a family dinner spot worth returning to after a Seoul Land outing.

Ttukseom madeleine café for kids' after-school snacks: Notldun

Notldun is a dessert café on Seoulsup 2-gil in Seongdong, Seoul, near Ttukseom Station. During a Seoulsup outing, the writer walked into Notldun on a weekday with no wait and took home individually wrapped madeleines as after-school snacks for the kids, and the eldest daughter said they were the best bread she had ever eaten. The Notldun madeleines impress twice: first with their looks, then with their soft, moist texture.

5to7 Seongsu Main Branch is a soufflé café in a house-style building on a busy street in Seoulsup, Seongdong, Seoul. After lunch with a friend, the writer ordered a strawberry soufflé and 2 iced coffees: the fluffy soufflé came with plenty of strawberries, the drip coffee had real depth, and the staff poured the unfinished coffee into a takeout cup. Songpa ice cream café: iced hojicha affogato at Wunder Coffee Bar

Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Outlet Garden5 branch is an ice cream and coffee café on basement level 1 of Hyundai Outlet Garden5, by the food court, near Jangji Station in Songpa, Seoul. After a meal with her two daughters, the writer ordered a Wundergato (affogato) with hojicha ice cream, which comes with ice in the cup so it turns into iced coffee as it melts, while the girls had Pig Bar (Dwaejibar) ice cream. The rare pairing of hojicha ice cream and espresso makes the hojicha Wundergato a menu item she would order again.
