Gopchang restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul: Pujim Gopchang half platter

In short

Pujim Gopchang Magoknaru Branch is a gopchang restaurant about a five-minute walk from Magoknaru Station Exit 2 in Gangseo, Seoul. We ordered the 600g half platter for two, which came with a mini gopchang hot pot, and enjoyed comparing the textures of the different cuts. The tender, savory gopchang and daechang stood out to me.

On Saturday evening, the two of us visited Pujim Gopchang Magoknaru Branch (푸짐곱창 마곡나루점). We ordered the Pujim half platter and ate everything from gopchang to daechang, makchang, and teukyang, along with the mini gopchang hot pot that came with it.

How do you get there from Magoknaru Station, and is parking available?

The restaurant is about a five-minute walk from Magoknaru Station Exit 2. I entered the Magoknaru dining alley and found it on the right side. The address is 161-8 Magokjungang-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, Building C, 1F, Unit 103.

The hours listed in the original post are daily from 16:00 to 23:00, and Naver reservations are available. You can use the Dusan The Land Park parking lot, with two hours listed as free.

What was the atmosphere like on Saturday evening?

There were about 10 tables inside. It had an overall pojangmacha-style atmosphere, and I thought it would be nice to have a glass of soju with gopchang there.

What were the price and contents of the gopchang half platter for two?

We ordered the Pujim half platter, 600g, for ₩59,000, and soju was ₩5,000. The half platter included beef heart, daechang (beef large intestine), gopchang (beef small intestine), teukyang (beef tripe), makchang (beef abomasum), and assorted vegetables.

The menu also had a 1kg Pujim platter for ₩79,000. Limited Hanwoo beef tongue was being sold at ₩39,000 for 300g, but we did not order it this time.

What side dishes and accompaniments came with the meal?

After we ordered, the basic side dishes were set out first: buchu (garlic chives), pickled onions, green onion kimchi, and pickled perilla leaves.

There were three sauces: garlic salt oil, seasoned sauce, and soy sauce. I liked being able to dip the same cut in different sauces.

Cheonyeop (honeycomb tripe) and raw liver also came with the meal. The cheonyeop was savory and chewy, while the raw liver tasted clean to me without any fishiness. I dipped them in the salt sauce.

How was the mini gopchang hot pot included with the half platter?

The mini gopchang hot pot came with the half platter. It contained gopchang, dangmyeon (glass noodles), and assorted vegetables; although it was small, it felt generously filled with ingredients.

The broth was spicy and fairly thick. To my taste, it was more savory than aggressively seasoned, and its peppery flavor paired well with the grilled gopchang.

How did the textures differ among the gopchang and other cuts?

When the assorted half platter arrived, a staff member cut the gopchang into bite-size pieces. We cooked and ate the pieces they had cut for us.

The thickness of the beef heart was impressive. Once browned, it was softer and juicier than I expected when dipped in salt sauce. The gopchang had a good amount of filling inside, and it was not tough; the more I chewed, the more savory it became.

The daechang released rich savory fat in my mouth. It left a clean finish rather than feeling greasy to me, and I liked it with soy sauce and Cheongyang chili peppers.

The makchang was crisp outside and chewy inside. The teukyang did not feel tough either; it had a firm, crunchy texture when chewed. Each cut had a different texture, which made alternating between them enjoyable.

Did the complimentary bibim noodles pair well with the gopchang?

We were given bibim guksu (mixed noodles) as a complimentary service that day. The seasoning was more sweet than tangy, and it paired well with the rich gopchang.

What I especially remembered from this meal was the gopchang with its moist filling and the savory daechang. The half platter let the two of us try several cuts and have hot pot as well, so it felt generously composed.
