Amsa Station Japanese lunch: chicken mayo bowl and katsu curry
In short
Haekbap Amsa is a Japanese home-style rice bowl and ramen restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building in front of Amsa Station Exit 2 in Gangdong, Seoul. For lunch, the writer ordered a chicken mayo rice bowl and a tonkatsu curry rice bowl, served as a wooden-tray set with refillable cabbage salad and soup, plus cheese tteok (rice cake) for dessert. With most dishes priced just over 10,000 won, Haekbap Amsa is an easy solo lunch spot near Amsa Station.

Lunch discount event and menu at Haekbap Amsa
Fun fact: Haekbap Amsa runs an event giving up to 10% off when you order meals through Naver (Korea's search and ordering app) between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. It runs through the end of August, so I'd guess even more people will come for a good-value lunch in Amsa.
At the entrance to the 2nd floor, the menu of this Japanese home-style (Gajeong) restaurant is posted, so you can check ahead what you can eat. With such a varied menu, it also seems good for coming in a group and picking dishes to suit everyone's taste.

What is the atmosphere like inside Haekbap Amsa?
Haekbap Amsa is an Amsa restaurant that specializes in home-style rice bowls and ramen. Walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor and you're right inside the restaurant.
Inside, you get a pleasant space with a fancy chandelier. Notices about the menu are posted around the restaurant so you can see how the food will look, which I loved!! It's bigger than I expected, and when I visited, every table was full of people, which surprised me!!!!

How to order at Haekbap Amsa and what it costs
You order on the tablet at your table, and overall a meal comes to the low ₩10,000s. I sat by the window and the glare on the tablet was so bad that I couldn't take a photo of the menu.
Another fun fact: if you join the Naver receipt review event, you can pick one of six items! You can choose from a large can of soda, two takoyaki balls, two croquettes, two pieces of fried chicken, one jumbo fried shrimp, or a mini udon as your review gift, which is great. Spoons and chopsticks are individually wrapped and kept in the drawer beside the table.

Table setup that's easy for solo diners
Lots of people come to eat solo in Amsa, so Haekbap Amsa even provides a phone stand in the form of a cute yellow chair, so thoughtful! haha There's shichimi (Japanese seven-spice) seasoning on the table, and even hair ties, how thoughtful! They also run a stamp event, one stamp for every ₩10,000 paid, which is why so many people come to Haekbap Amsa for a meal in Amsa.

What comes with the Haekbap chicken mayo bowl set
I ordered the chicken mayo bowl at Haekbap Amsa! It comes on a wooden tray with the main dish and various side dishes, and the neat tray set feels really clean and tidy. I ordered a Coke Zero too! haha

Are the cabbage salad and soup refillable?
The cabbage salad and soup that come as basic sides at Haekbap Amsa can be refilled: if you want more while eating, just ask the staff. I actually got a second helping haha

Kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and pickled yellow radish come too, and unusually, there's also cheese rice cake drizzled with sweet syrup, good as an after-meal dessert haha

How does the chicken mayo bowl taste?
It had been a really long time since I'd had a chicken mayo bowl. Haekbap's chicken mayo bowl comes with cabbage, egg strips and big pieces of chicken on rice, generously drizzled with sauce.

The rice itself comes with some sauce on it too, so it's easy to enjoy: the chicken mayo bowl at Haekbap, a rice place in Amsa.

How was the tonkatsu curry bowl at Haekbap Amsa?
I also ordered the tonkatsu curry bowl at Haekbap Amsa and we shared, and the curry had such a deep flavor that it was really delicious!!!

Haekbap is a good-value lunch spot near Amsa Station. Next time I'll order something I haven't tried yet!!!
