What is Anan Gangnam Direct Store like?
Anan Gangnam Direct Store (안안 강남직영점) is a great spot near Gangnam Station for tasty Vietnamese food. The menu has pho, bun cha (grilled pork with rice noodles), banh xeo (Vietnamese crispy pancake) and more, so it looks like a good place for a Gangnam Station group dinner, and I had a lovely meal there.

Where is Anan Gangnam, and can you park?
Anan is a 3-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 12 toward Gukgiwon, and you can park in the building. The mint-colored wall at the entrance feels so fresh! I know how hard it is to find a restaurant with parking right in the middle of Gangnam Station, so honestly I'm amazed, haha.

What are the atmosphere and seating like, and is it OK for groups?
The interior at Anan is fresh and tidy, done in brown tones with a rattan feel. I liked how clean and uncluttered it is.
The hall is quite big, with tables that seat several people, so it should work well for a group meal near Gangnam Station. There are children's high chairs and also a wine cellar!! Wine with Vietnamese food?!?! I'd never thought of it, but it sounds really good, doesn't it...?!?!?!

Anan's menu and how to order
You order by scanning the QR code on the table, and disposable aprons are provided.
The menu covers many kinds of Vietnamese food, with photos and detailed descriptions, so even dishes you don't know are easy to figure out. There's stir-fried morning glory with garlic, cha gio (fried spring rolls), shrimp cha gio, seafood and green mango salad, bun cha, goi cuon (summer rolls), beef pho, seafood pho, stir-fried noodles and more. There's also banh xeo, a kind of Vietnamese savory pancake, so of course we had to try it!!!! hahaha
There are also some more exotic-sounding dishes: banh mi sot vang (Vietnamese beef stew), bun bo Hue (spicy central-Vietnam-style noodle soup) and bun thit nuong (sweet-salty flame-grilled pork over rice noodles). Coming with a group and ordering a variety would be even better.

Such a neat table setting! The water had lemon? grapefruit? and mint in it, and the zingy flavor was so good.

The rice paper comes with the banh xeo, but unlike with goi cuon there was no hot water for softening it, which puzzled me a little. That mystery got solved later! Hehe. Lime and cilantro for the pho showed up too!

How was Anan's beef pho?
The color of the clear broth in Anan's beef pho is striking.

The bowl is packed with tender beef, and the broth especially was so light and clean that it was really delicious.

The day I visited, the rain had just started pouring, so one sip of the hot pho broth was pure happiness...!! The noodles were also wonderfully soft, so I was totally satisfied ㅠㅠ!!!!!

Anan's pho is tasty even as it is, and adding cilantro made it even better, hahaha.

What is Anan's signature banh xeo?
Banh xeo is the signature dish at Anan Gangnam Direct Store!!! The combination of fresh herbs brought in every morning and rice paper crisped up with Anan's own know-how was really appealing.
The nuoc cham sauce also came in a generous amount, so I was very happy, hehe.

Banh xeo (Bánh xèo), a traditional Vietnamese dish, is basically a crispy savory crepe or pancake, and ChatGPT told me the "xèo" in the name is the "sizzling" sound the batter makes when poured into a hot pan, hehe.

A yellow batter made of rice flour and turmeric is fried crisp and filled with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts and so on, and it's served with lettuce, perilla leaves, herbs, rice paper and nuoc cham (Vietnamese fish sauce dip), or so I'm told.
How to eat Anan's banh xeo: wrap it in rice paper without soaking it
Lay down a lettuce leaf, put the crisp, unsoaked rice paper on top, add a piece of banh xeo, and put the mint on the very top!

Then roll it up like gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and dip it in the nuoc cham!! So you just roll the rice paper up crisp, without softening it?! It's different from the banh xeo I've had elsewhere, so I was shocked! And it was so delicious that I fainted again.. I mean, how can it be this good ㅠㅠㅠㅠ!!!!

It was so good I fainted.. I always thought rice paper had to be soaked in hot water first!
Crunchy bean sprouts, chewy squid and plump shrimp go so well with the crispy pancake, haha. And the fragrant mint is the real kicker!
