Couple wedding shoot hair and makeup in Hongdae: Moi Hair Makeup

The day of our wedding shoot has finally come!! Today I'm sharing my review of Moi Hair Makeup (모이 헤어메이크업), a Hongdae makeup salon that's famous as a go-to spot for wedding snap hair and makeup!

Moi Hair Makeup is a great-value makeup salon in Hongdae where you can get everything from everyday looks to special-occasion styling. It's open 05:00 - 18:00.

Where is Moi Hair Makeup, and how's the parking?

Moi Hair Makeup is right outside Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station (Line 2, Airport Railroad and Gyeongui-Jungang Line). It's well known for Hongdae daily makeup and wedding makeup, and it was super easy to reach on foot!

If you drive, the building (Hyosung Hongik Inkan) covers 1 hour of parking, then it's ₩1,000 per 20 minutes! We went by car on a Friday afternoon, and with two people getting their makeup done it took about 2 hours 20 minutes, so we paid around ₩4,000 for parking!

When you book, they text you the parking location and the salon location in advance, which was so nice!! Thoughtful and lovely from the very first impression, that's Moi Hair Makeup!

Inside Moi Hair Makeup and the cost of wedding shoot hair and makeup

The inside of Moi Hair Makeup stood out for its clean white and wood-tone interior! Lots of people come for all sorts of purposes, from daily looks to wedding shoots, snaps and the ceremony itself, so everything from the roomy fitting room to the private individual rooms is thoughtfully set up. I loved it!

From private individual rooms

to group rooms, they have a nice variety! Maybe because it's Hongdae, there were tons of foreign customers too.

We were doing a simple studio shoot this time, so we went with the women's basic hair and makeup (₩143,000) and the men's basic hair and makeup (₩77,000)!

How do they do makeup for a studio wedding shoot?

At Moi Hair Makeup they start with skincare, then carefully layer the base. Since it's a studio shoot, they built it up brightly from the bottom with no gaps!!

They also filled in the hair thoroughly with no gaps to finish the first base, and after that they moved on to color and eye makeup!

No reference photo, just "pink and dewy"

I didn't bring a makeup reference photo. (The vibe of Moi's makeup that I'd checked on Instagram beforehand was already exactly my style,, honestly!!) I asked for pink and dewy, and they said that since it's a wedding shoot they'd keep the feel I wanted but go for a slightly calmer pink tone, defined and flattering, and then got started!! Their hands were so fast that it was done in no time!!

Where do you get your hair done at Moi Hair Makeup?

I had my hair done in a different space in the same building! They guided me kindly so I just followed along comfortably! (It's not far!)

This space seems to focus mostly on hair! My fiancé also had his hair and makeup done at Moi this time, and he said he got his done in this space!!

After checking the hair I wanted, they just totally got it!!!! They set it up in a flash with really fast hands. My hair is shorter than the reference, so I wondered if I'd get the look I wanted, but it was such a perfect match, and I ended up with hair I love,,,

Did the hair and makeup hold up at a wedding shoot with no helper?

Moi Hair Makeup also packed me a spare of the lip color they used for my makeup! And now, the big after!!

Ta-da! I look like a totally different person from when I walked in, haha 😭 They brought out the best points in my hair with lovely volume and curls, and the makeup was a tone I'd never tried before but it suited me so well, I love it!!!

Even once we moved on to the studio shoot, the hair and makeup stayed pretty!! We only shot for about 2 hours, so there was no hair restyling and no helper (the "helper auntie" who normally touches things up), and I'd worried a lot about what to do if it fell apart, but it turned out so pretty that the worry was pointless!!

Too good to waste the look, so we went to a Photoism photo booth too!! I was super, super satisfied with Moi Hair Makeup, and the value is so good that I plan to come back for daily makeup!!
