Nowon hair salon 10-year long hair to bob plus root perm: Yeum Hair
In short
Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch is a hair salon on the 2nd floor of the Starbucks building near Exit 7 of Nowon Station in Seoul. After keeping her hair long for nearly 10 years, the writer consulted the owner-stylist, got a bob cut, and instead of a magic straight setting had a root perm that kept her existing perm curls while lifting flat roots. Yeum Hair stood out for consultation focused only on the treatments her hair needed and a style that is easy to manage at home.

I kept my hair long for almost 10 years, and lately I've caught the bob bug. 🙄🙄 After growing it out so carefully for so long, chopping it all off at once wasn't easy. This spring I cut it to a mid-length bob and got a perm, and that made me want to try something even shorter. While I was hunting for cut reviews and wondering what style to go for, I ended up visiting Yeum Hair (예움헤어) in Nowon.
This visit was part of a sponsored experience, but I'll be honest and write about everything from the consultation to how I felt afterward, based on my own experience.
Where is Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch, and where do you park?

I took the subway, and it was easy to find: just a short walk straight from Exit 7, in the 2nd-floor space of the Starbucks building. I booked on Naver before visiting.

Nowon District Office is right in front, so parking looked convenient.
What is the atmosphere inside Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch like?
The salon is spacious, and the styling seats are spaced well apart, so it was nice and quiet during my treatment. There's plenty of waiting seating too, and you can see trees out the window, which made the long treatment time comfortable.

The interior is large and the styling seats are spaced comfortably, so I could get my treatment in a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

There was also plenty of waiting seating, where a companion can wait comfortably during your treatment or you can sit for a bit before your appointment.

The lush green trees outside the window were lovely too. 🌿

With something long like a perm, sitting for hours can get tiring. But looking at the green view calmed me down, and it felt less like getting my hair done and more like a nice healing break.

How did the bob cut go after 10 years of long hair?
At Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch, I had a thorough consultation with the head stylist, then a shampoo and the bob cut. Rather than cutting it short all at once, she checked the balance and trimmed the length and shape bit by bit.
The staff greeted me warmly when I walked in 😊 and I was treated by the head stylist.

Before the treatment, my hair was a long wave style down to my chest. I hadn't had my perm done that long ago, so a lot of curl was left, but the weather has been so hot that I wanted to switch to something shorter and lighter than long hair.

I'd only ever kept my hair long, so I worried a lot about whether a bob would suit me. 🥲 Thanks to the head stylist's thorough consultation about the style I wanted, I worked up the courage to go for the cut. We started with a shampoo, then the cut. Instead of cutting short in one go, she carefully refined the length and shape bit by bit while checking the overall balance.

This is how it looked once the cut was done.
Why did the stylist recommend a root perm instead of magic setting?
After the cut, the head stylist looked at my hair again. Since plenty of my perm curl remained and my hair doesn't get severely frizzy as long as it's dried properly, she recommended a root perm instead of a magic straight setting (a heat-set straightening treatment). Her explanation was that fixing the flat roots alone would give a natural style, and that it should last about 3 months depending on hair condition.
After the cut, she gave my hair a light blow-dry and checked its condition again. At first I was also considering magic setting, but she explained that plenty of my old perm curl remained and that my hair isn't the kind that gets seriously frizzy if you just dry it properly.
Honestly, my hair does look fairly tidy when I dry it well before going out, but usually I can't even be bothered to dry it and let it air-dry a lot. 🙄🙄 She read both my hair condition and my habits accurately, and told me it's good to dry your hair thoroughly, even for the sake of scalp health. She also said that even with volume magic, if you don't dry your scalp, the frizz can end up the same!!
She said that fixing the flat roots would give me a natural style, so she recommended a root perm that could lift volume on the top and sides.
When I mentioned that a root perm I'd had before didn't last long, she explained that this one could last about 3 months depending on hair condition. I also liked that rather than just piling on more treatments, she looked at my current hair condition and suggested only what was really needed. With my remaining curls kept as they were and volume added to the flat roots, the whole silhouette looked lighter and more natural.

Was the root perm and scalp clinic comfortable during treatment?
I had the root perm in a spacious seat with a view of trees out the window, and even though my bangs and roots were done thoroughly, my scalp didn't hurt or feel pulled. After neutralizing, I also got a scalp clinic and massage.
For the perm, I moved to a spacious seat with a view of green trees outside the window. They also brought me a drink and cookies, so I refueled during the treatment haha. It was a rainy day, so I watched the rain and the trees out the window, and it was a relaxing time 😊
They kept checking that my scalp wasn't pulled or uncomfortable during the treatment, so I could relax! They did my bangs and roots carefully too, but my scalp never hurt or felt tugged. After neutralizing, I had the scalp clinic, and they put a warm towel behind my neck 😃
The scalp massage that followed pressed firmly in just the right way and felt so refreshing. 😍😍 They also rinsed my shampoo out really cleanly, with no residue left.

The shampoo area was kept clean too, and since it's tucked toward the back of the salon, I could rest in a private, comfortable way during the scalp clinic.
Once everything was done, the head stylist checked the overall style once more and carefully refined the parts that needed it.

How do you blow-dry bangs at home after a bob root perm?
The head stylist's bangs-drying method is to flip your hair forward to dry it, then leave a hair roller in the bangs for a short while. I tried it the next day after shampooing myself, and styling was really easy.
She also showed me in detail how to dry my bangs at home. She said to flip my hair forward and dry it comfortably, then put a hair roller in the bangs for a little while once the drying is done. Today I shampooed myself and dried my hair the way she showed me, and styling was really easy.

How did the bob cut and root perm at Yeum Hair turn out?
The bob cut and root perm at Yeum Hair Nowon District Office branch kept my existing curls and added volume at the roots and sides, finishing as a light, neat style. Even when I dried it at home, it settled much like the salon finish, so styling wasn't difficult.
They even gave me a hair treatment! Since I'd kept my hair long for so long, I worried the short cut would look strange on me. But I liked the cut, and with my leftover curls kept naturally and volume added at the roots and sides, the whole style came out light and neat.
Best of all, even after I dried my hair myself at home, it settled much like the salon finish, so styling wasn't hard. If you want a consultation on treatments that suit your current hair condition, or want to change your hairstyle in a relaxed atmosphere, I think Yeum Hair near Nowon Station is worth a visit.😊
