Sokcho Korean restaurant for late-night baby crab: Hwangbuja Twigim

In short

Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean snack restaurant in Sokcho Central Market, Gangwon. I packed mini ojingeo sundae, a small baby crab, and a small seed shrimp gangjeong, and they were still warm and generously portioned three hours later at home. Verdict: the bite-sized squid sundae and crispy baby crab were especially good!

Packing fried snacks for a late-night meal at Sokcho Central Market

What comes to mind when you think of Sokcho? You can't skip a stroll around Central Market! They had ojingeo sundae (stuffed squid sausage) with an incredible look, so I packed some fried snacks for a late-night meal.

Hwangbuja Twigim is inside the market, so I recommend using a nearby public parking lot! Haha.

While walking around, I spotted the exterior of Hwangbuja Twigim! There were lots of fried-snack shops, so don't get confused! Haha.

Choosing mini ojingeo sundae and fried snacks

Here is Hwangbuja Twigim's wide-ranging menu! There were individual items as well as good-value sets. A set would be great for trying several things! We picked the mini ojingeo sundae, small baby crab, and small seed shrimp gangjeong (sweet-and-spicy glazed shrimp). Haha.

The delicious-looking fried snacks were all lined up, and they really did look amazing!! Don't worry—they fry them again to order! Haha.

They also have tasting portions, so you can try them one at a time, haha. It looked like they sell frozen ones too, and I definitely recommend stocking up at home~~

Trying nurungji ojingeo sundae

This is Hwangbuja Twigim's nurungji ojingeo sundae! Since it has nurungji (scorched rice), they said they pan-fry it without an egg coating. I tried one as a sample, and it was wonderfully toasty, crispy, and chewy ojingeo sundae! Haha.

Golden-browned mini ojingeo sundae

This is the mini ojingeo sundae we ordered from Hwangbuja Twigim! It was soaked in a seriously yellow egg coating! They grilled it to a delicious golden brown, and I wanted to eat it right away! Haha.

A late-night spread at home three hours later

The warm takeout was all packed up! It took about three hours to get home, but it was still warm when we arrived!? Ohh, nice~~

My late-night spread filled the whole table, haha. I bought everything so well in Sokcho, right!?!? Even though the sizes were mini and small, the portions were quite generous! They would be perfect with drinks too, haha.

Mini ojingeo sundae that was easy to eat in one bite

First up, Hwangbuja Twigim's mini ojingeo sundae! It says mini, but personally, I loved that I could pop it into my mouth in one bite—it was easy to eat!

The squid around the edge was super tender, and the filling was packed full too, so it was delicious! Seriously, sooooo good!!!! I personally highly recommend the ojingeo sundae!!!!! Haha.

Baby crab fried with the hard top shell removed

Second, Hwangbuja Twigim's baby crab! They remove the hard top shell before frying it, making it easy to eat! So crispy!!

Whenever I visit the seaside, I always buy this fried crab. The crispiness and blue crab aroma are what make it special! It probably would have been even tastier while looking at the sea, haha.

Seed shrimp gangjeong, picked clean down to the heads

Third, Hwangbuja Twigim's seed shrimp gangjeong! You can choose shrimp with shells or without them, but I think shrimp absolutely need to come with the heads on! Haha. You have to eat the heads too for it to feel like you've really eaten shrimp!?

The sauce was so good too!!!! Even the next day, it wasn't completely super-crispy, but it was still delicious and took care of a snack too!! Haha.
