In short
Ichiba Ramen is a Japanese ramen restaurant on Jungang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon. I ordered Special Tonkotsu Ramen, spicy Kara Ramen, and handmade karaage for 29,500 won. Verdict: a satisfying stop when you want a seriously rich bowl of ramen in Sokcho.

When you are enjoying a trip around Gangwon-do with the sea breeze on your face, there are moments when you desperately crave a hot, rich bowl of soup, right? Rather than the usual tourist foods like sashimi or dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), I was craving a truly good Japanese noodle dish that locals rave about, so I headed to Ichiba Ramen (이찌바라멘) in Sokcho! It is one of Sokcho's best-known ramen spots, famous for deeply simmered, substantial traditional Japanese-style broth and thoughtfully generous toppings. From the location and parking information to ordering at the kiosk—and my honest tasting review of Special Tonkotsu Ramen, spicy Kara Ramen, and crisp-outside, juicy-inside handmade karaage—I will go through it all in detail!

Ichiba Ramen location, parking, and hours
Location: Ichiba Ramen, 348 Jungang-ro, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do
Parking: You can conveniently park along the roadside parking lines in front of the restaurant, or use nearby public or alley parking. Since it is in the city center, it is also easy to reach by public transportation or on foot.
Hours: 09:00–21:00 (last order 20:30; checking Naver Place before visiting is recommended)
I came around lunchtime, and the restaurant was already bustling with customers there for ramen! Even while I was eating, people kept coming in nonstop, and I thought, “Ah, this really is the kind of proper local favorite in Sokcho that I was hoping to find!”

Kiosk menu and prices
Just inside the entrance, there is a convenient BVER self-service kiosk, so you can take your time looking over the menu and pay easily. It also neatly supports Sokcho Love Gift Certificate mobile QR payment (chak) and Payco. Here is what I selected directly from the kiosk screen, along with the prices!

After ordering, I was shown to my table and settled in.

Thoughtful touches at the table
As I sat down and looked around, I was really impressed by the owner’s thoughtful sense and care in every corner. The table was neatly set with basic danmuji (pickled yellow radish), cold water, and orderly chopsticks, plus shichimi (Japanese seven-spice blend) and black pepper to add flavor to your liking.
Best of all, they even had hair ties available so guests with long hair could comfortably tie it back and keep it out of their soup while eating! These warm little details that consider each customer made me feel happy before I had even tasted the ramen.

Special Tonkotsu, Kara Ramen, and karaage
Before long, my food arrived steaming away, and just the look of it immediately made my mouth water!
Special Tonkotsu Ramen
The Special Tonkotsu Ramen (₩15,000) first surprised me with its generous, bowl-filling portion! I took a spoonful of broth first, and it was on a completely different level from ordinary ramen shops—so intensely rich and thick. The pork-bone broth had been simmered for a long time, giving it a deep flavor, yet there was none of that distinctive pork odor or fishiness; it was clean, mild, and deeply flavorful.
The substantial broth clung beautifully to the noodles, while the large slices of chashu pork were so tender that they practically fell apart as soon as I picked them up with chopsticks. They melted in my mouth with incredible softness.
Spicy Kara Ramen
The spicy Kara Ramen (₩9,500) had a spicy aroma that tickled my nose, and its warming, sharp broth was completely my style! It was not an artificial capsaicin kind of heat; instead, the savory broth and the bright kick of chili oil came together in a golden balance that made me feel instantly refreshed inside. The broth was spicy but still firmly supported by the rich body of the meat stock, so I simply could not put my spoon down.
Handmade karaage
The handmade karaage (₩5,000) was such a gem too! It did not feel like a frozen store-bought product tossed into a fryer; you could really sense the care, as though the owner had seasoned the chicken and coated it before frying it themselves. The moment I bit in, there was a cheerful crunch and moist juices burst out. It was savory and crispy, making it the perfect partner for the rich ramen broth.
Final thoughts on this rich ramen meal
From the thick, deeply concentrated broth with no off-putting odor, to the meltingly tender chashu in the Special Tonkotsu Ramen, the refreshingly spicy Kara Ramen, and the freshly fried karaage that kept its crunch, it was a perfectly balanced three-part meal.
If you are tired of seafood and standard tourist restaurants in Sokcho and want to recharge with a proper bowl of rich Japanese ramen, I strongly recommend stopping by Ichiba Ramen, a true local favorite and a hidden-gem ramen spot in Sokcho where the locals keep coming back.
