The breeze is cool, the sky is blue—this weather is absolutely perfect for a trip! My heart was fluttering so much that my husband and I hurriedly planned a trip to Yeongwol in Gangwon. We were so happy there... and I am still feeling the afterglow from this place!

Maru Pension Camping Site, a well-known campground in Yeongwol, Gangwon, has both pensions and campsites, making it absolutely perfect for first-time campers like us! Our family had only gone on camping picnics rather than proper camping trips, so camping felt like a bit much—but we still wanted to try it. This is just the kind of Yeongwol camping stay to visit then!

Maru Pension Camping Site in Yeongwol sits in a gorgeous spot, with the Pyeongchang River flowing right in front, fresh air, clear water, and lush green mountains in view. It is already famous in Yeongwol as a campground with wonderful views, and we happened to find somewhere this lovely on our very first camping trip. So lucky! Maru Pension Camping Site is a very large campground with around 20 sites, but the sites themselves are even more impressive! You will be completely surprised when you see them below!

Why this first-time camper booked a pension

Since we were first-time campers, we did not quite have the courage to spend the night outdoors, so we booked one of the pensions at Maru Pension Camping Site. There were five of us, so we reserved a slightly larger room—and wow, honestly, it was the cleanest accommodation I have ever stayed in! There was not a trace of water staining in the bathroom; it was so spotless, like it had just been built. From the sink and bedding to the bathroom and rooms, everything was unbelievably clean! Wow... I would happily come back every time if it were a place like this!

How spacious is the riverside C Site?

From the moment we checked in, we met the incredibly kind owner. After unpacking at the pension, we looked around the campsites. This is the C Site! With the Pyeongchang River directly in front of it and an incredible view, it could be called the prime spot at Maru Pension Camping Site.

The C Site is truly so huge that your jaw drops just looking at it! Even after parking a car and putting up a large tent, there is still plenty of room left. With this much space, it would be so nice to set up a tent comfortably and leave all sorts of gear beside it! The ground was also packed down very evenly with hardly any bumps, so it was so easy when we put up our tent!

There is also a huge stage that can be used for campground events! Maru Camping Site is such a happy Yeongwol camping stay for a vacation!

On one side, there was a washing-up area, and the washing-up area, showers, and unmanned shop were all prepared together. They also sell firewood at the campground, making everything easy to use.

How can it be this perfectly tidy! The washing-up area was maintained so cleanly, without a spot of mold. It was incredibly clean!

A refreshing time at the Pyeongchang River

We went down to the Pyeongchang River right in front of us, caught freshwater snails, watched little schools of fish, and even went into the water. It would have been even better on a really hot summer day. Even just dipping your feet in feels cool! I cannot believe I only found out about somewhere with views this good now; the cool weather made me a little sad!

Just looking at the mountains, river, and cliffs made my heart feel wide open. They were all so, so beautiful. It would be wonderful to live somewhere like this for a week, not just a day!

We are still camping beginners, so we set up a simple tent, but we could sit in front of it, look out over the Pyeongchang River, and enjoy some relaxed time too!

After dinner, while we were relaxing at the accommodation, the owner let us taste these beautifully sliced peaches. A whole plate of peaches dripping with honey-like sweetness—something you cannot try just anywhere!

Ending a Yeongwol night with fireside gazing under the stars

They say Yeongwol's night sky is beautiful, and as it grew dark, the sky filled with stars. Yeongwol's night sky looked as though stars might pour down. I still cannot forget it! It had been so long since I had seen a night sky so crisp, clear, and clean. We let go of every thought and came home completely recharged from Maru Pension Camping Site in Yeongwol!

We enjoyed the fireside gazing we had wanted to do so badly and roasted marshmallows too! Our family spent such a happy time under stars that seemed ready to spill from the sky. Camping still feels unfamiliar, but it was a time that made us realize how happy it can be. We decided to start camping because of this trip, and headed home promising to return every year to Maru Pension Camping Site, such a clean and wonderful Yeongwol camping stay.
