My kid really loved it.
When you're raising a kid, every weekend brings the same deep question: where on earth do we eat today? Especially when the weather turns cool — or even on hot days when you're heading out on a weekend outing — you instinctively start hunting for a family restaurant where the kid won't fuss and will actually eat, while mom and dad still get to enjoy their meal in peace. Luckily, there's a clean, delicious Japanese restaurant near Hyundai Outlet in Daejeon. I fell for the sleek interior and tidy food styling first, then fell again for how well everything tasted.

Location, parking, and kid-friendly setup at Choi Dining Gwanpyeong
Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong sits right on the restaurant street directly across from Hyundai Outlet in Gwanpyeong-dong, Daejeon, which makes it a convenient stop before or after a weekend shopping trip. It's open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with plenty of time to work with, and there's a dedicated parking space on the side of the building — the surrounding alleys aren't crowded either, so parking was safe and easy. Walking inside, the bright, clean, modern space decorated with cute little props immediately caught my eye, and the tables are spaced quite wide apart, which made it very convenient to bring a stroller along with the kid. On top of that, out of consideration for small children, they have cute dedicated kids' dishware and a dedicated baby chair set up as standard — as a mom, I was genuinely touched the moment we walked in, and I could start the meal feeling completely at ease.

Ordering katsu sando, cold salmon soba, and pork loin katsu
Once we sat down, we carefully used the clean tablet installed at each table to order the pork loin katsu our kid always loves, plus a cold soba for the adults to enjoy on a hot day. First up was the katsu sando, famous for its thick pork cutlet tucked into soft, fluffy bread — true to its reputation, the tender meat juices melded with the bread so well that I was genuinely surprised the moment I took a bite.

Next, the cold salmon soba (naengsoba), a recommended dish perfect for this weather, came piled generously with thick, savory salmon, and the deep, refreshing broth made the heat feel like it just melted away. Finally, the pork loin katsu (deungsim katsu) we also ordered — the signature dish of this katsu spot — had an extremely thin, crispy coating while still letting the moist, full flavor of the Korean pork loin come through, which was very satisfying. Choi Dining's dishes clearly don't skimp on fresh ingredients and use them generously, which explains why the plating is so vivid and the saying 'food that looks good tastes good' rang completely true.

Mild enough for the kid to eat without sauce
There was no spicy kick at all — just a mild, savory broth (jangguk) served as part of the basic table setting, which was hearty enough paired with rice. The katsu, crispy outside and tender inside, was handed to our kid plain with no extra seasoning, and it was so sweet watching the kid chew it carefully and eat it all without any fuss. Sharing the soft, sandwich-style meat dish that lets you taste bread and meat together, alongside the cool, salmon-loaded noodle dish, turned out to be surprisingly filling. The overall balance was so good that I could barely put my spoon down while sharing with my kid, and the kind, attentive staff rounded off a comfortable dinner. Two bowls of rice, cleared!

Would we go back for another family meal?
Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong was a genuinely warm space where the whole family could comfortably enjoy a neat Japanese spread in a pretty, modern setting. From the friendly service to the kid-friendly dishware, it's the kind of restaurant that leaves parents deeply grateful, so we'll definitely be coming back from time to time. If you're wondering where to take your precious little one for a comfortable, hearty Japanese meal on a weekend trip to Hyundai Outlet, I'd recommend heading here without hesitation.
