A great-atmosphere Indian curry spot I discovered near Hapjeong Station~~ <Mandala Indian Lounge>, an Indian restaurant near Hongdae, is on the 2nd floor of the building

Seating at Mandala Indian Lounge that feels like a brunch café

When you think of an Indian curry specialist, you picture a place decked out in flashy Indian decor, but <Mandala Indian Lounge>, an Indian restaurant near Hongdae, is completely sleek and hip, like a date spot — totally different from the usual Indian curry place! Some people love that flashy, authentic-local feel, but on the day I wanted the vibe of a nice brunch café, Mandala Indian Lounge's atmosphere hit the spot perfectly

A lounge area styled like a cocktail bar

There are even chargers for your phone, and tables ranging from 2-seaters to 4-seaters! There's also a space styled like a cocktail bar, which makes the atmosphere feel even better — during the day it feels like a brunch café, but from 9pm it transforms into a party mood where you can enjoy the night with lively music. With cocktails, wine, and even shisha on offer, I'd recommend it as an exotic hotspot for more than just a meal

What comes in the 12,000 won weekday lunch set

✅Weekday lunch set for one, ₩12,000 (chicken tikka masala + plain naan + rice) — this is the weekday lunch set! Usually rice and curry come separately, but here it's served in one bowl like a rice bowl, plus a freshly baked, warm plain naan~~

Freshly baked, warm plain naan
Close-up of the chicken tikka masala curry

I chose chicken tikka masala curry, one of the best-selling menu items, and as expected it's a flavor everyone would love! Mild chicken pieces top a tomato base, and it goes down so easily~! It felt more moist than typical Indian curry, almost like a tomato soup. I'm a total tomato lover, so the rich tomato flavor was completely my style

Butter garlic naan, 4,000 won: size and taste

✅Paneer makhani ₩14,000 ✅Butter garlic naan ₩4,000. The plain naan with its mild, crisp charm is delicious too, but if you want an extra savory kick, I strongly recommend the butter garlic naan, brushed with butter and garlic and baked!!! It's bigger than your face, so I'd suggest ordering one per person first, then adding more if you're still hungry

Paneer makhani with cube-shaped homemade cheese

Paneer makhani, 14,000 won: a homemade cheese curry

✅Paneer makhani ₩14,000 ✅Butter garlic naan ₩4,000. Curries topped with chicken or shrimp are great too, but since it had been a while since I visited an Indian curry specialist, I went for the curry with paneer, the homemade cheese that's not so easy to find elsewhere! The square cube toppings in the curry are the homemade cheese 'paneer' — not too salty and without any funky smell, so it's a crowd-pleasing flavor! Chewy and nutty, it has a real charm that makes the curry's flavor even richer

Honestly, this curry is delicious enough to just eat on its own, but dipping it in the butter garlic naan, bursting with butter and garlic flavor, made it even more amazing!!!! Wow, it was so good I cleaned the whole plate

Having tried both the lunch menu and the basic à la carte curry, the à la carte portion is definitely bigger, but the lunch set is such great value that I'd recommend it as a no-pressure Indian restaurant near Hongdae to visit whenever you're craving Indian curry
