Indian curry at India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch

Indian curry near Coex: how much for a really full meal for two?

The Set B for two at India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch costs ₩45,000 and comes with salad, 2 lassis, boneless tandoori chicken, 2 curries, rice and naan. When you go for Indian curry and order a bit of everything, two curries plus tandoori chicken, two people can easily hit ₩50,000-60,000 or more, right?

But the two-person set at India The Durbar, a well-known spot near Samseong Station and Coex, is ₩45,000 and the spread was seriously generous. We came out really stuffed, haha. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala tasted surprisingly different, so it was fun trading bites back and forth. If you're looking for a good-value Indian restaurant near Coex, give it a look!

A big red sign reading INDIA DURBAR in front of the building makes it easy to spot! Follow the sign downstairs and you'll find the restaurant. There's no parking at all, though, so public transport is easier than driving.

What's the atmosphere like inside?

Basement dining room of India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch

It's a basement restaurant, but the space was much bigger than it looked from outside. Brick-style walls, Indian-style decor and warm lighting overall. It feels like a local Indian restaurant but also clean, which I liked.

Table seating at India The Durbar

There are plenty of tables, so it's fine for a casual meal for two, and a good place to drop in when you want Indian curry near Coex.

Here's the menu! There's quite a range, from curries to tandoori, biryani, Indian breads and drinks. We ordered Set B for two :)

To eat your fill at an Indian curry place, two people usually spend ₩50,000-60,000 or more, so a price in the ₩40,000s is a real bargain...! The Set B I ordered comes with a green salad, 2 lassis, 6 pieces of boneless tandoori chicken, 2 curries, rice and naan. It has nearly everything you'd want to eat at an Indian restaurant.

  • Green salad
  • 2 lassis
  • 6 pieces of boneless tandoori chicken
  • 2 curries (choose from butter chicken, palak paneer (spinach and cheese curry), chicken tikka masala)
  • Rice
  • Naan (flatbread)

Extra naan with a review event at the time of my visit

There was also a review event when I visited. If you write a review and show it to the staff, you get one extra naan! If you love naan, don't forget to join in, haha.

Side dishes of pickled onions, pickled radish and jalapeños

Side dishes

The side dishes were pickled onions, pickled radish and jalapeños. A nice combo to nibble on between bites of curry, haha.

Set B green salad and lassi

Set B green salad with tangerine

First out in Set B was the green salad. Dressing over lettuce and other greens, with plump tangerine segments mixed in, so it was tangy and sweet and tasty. A perfect light start before creamy curry!

The 2 lassis (yogurt drinks) in Set B tasted like sweet plain yogurt. Nothing with a strange flavor, so easy to drink, and good as a palate cleanser mid-meal or as a dessert-style finish.

How many pieces of boneless tandoori chicken do you get?

Boneless tandoori chicken with dipping sauce

The boneless tandoori chicken in Set B comes as 6 pieces, and my first thought was, that's a lot. At many Indian places, sets include only 2-4 pieces of tandoori chicken, but here it's a full 6! Generous portions, I approve, haha.

A piece of boneless tandoori chicken

Best of all, with no bones it was so easy to pick up piece by piece. Dipped in the sauce that came with it, it tasted even better than plain.

Butter chicken vs chicken tikka masala: what's the difference?

For the Set B curries you choose two from butter chicken, palak paneer and chicken tikka masala. After the tandoori chicken, the curries I'd been waiting for arrived! We picked butter chicken and chicken tikka masala.

Set B with large naan and rice

Rice and naan come too, one each. Pretty generous, right?? The naan is huge, haha. Salad, lassi, tandoori chicken, two curries, rice and naan: you basically get everything you'd want at an Indian restaurant, wow. Personally I'm not a big fan of samosas, so I deliberately ordered the set without samosa.

The butter chicken was creamy and mellow, just like the name suggests! Of the two, it tasted a little sweeter.

Creamy butter chicken curry

The chicken tikka masala was a bit less sweet than the butter chicken, with a slight tang. I assumed both would be similarly creamy, but trading bites showed a real difference, which I liked. It didn't feel like eating the same flavor over and over, so it was perfect for alternating bites!

Chewy naan with curry

The naan here is chewy

Some places serve naan that's dry and crumbly like bread. The naan at India The Durbar isn't like that: it's properly baked and chewy, and so good with the curry! Piling plenty of curry on top, I was like, yes, this is the taste, haha.

After the salad, lassi, tandoori chicken, two curries, rice and naan, the two of us left extremely full!

India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch Set B: overall verdict

Set B for two at ₩45,000 lets you have two curries, tandoori chicken and naan with nothing missing, and I especially liked the value for the price. At an Indian restaurant, eating this properly tends to get expensive faster than you'd expect.

The 6 boneless tandoori chicken pieces were plenty, the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala differed enough to be fun to alternate, and above all the naan wasn't dry but chewy, which was great with the curry! If you're looking for a restaurant near Samseong Station and Coex, or good-value Indian curry, this is a solid choice for a hearty meal.
