Korean fusion date night in Yeongdeungpo: yukhoe bibimbap at Gangmun

Gangmun Times Square Branch is a fusion Korean restaurant in the B1 Food Square of Times Square in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. After a Friday-evening movie, the writer and her husband shared the yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap) set with gungchae, which costs 15,000 won, and the beef brisket mala cream noodle set, which costs 14,000 won. The bibimbap came with its sauce already underneath and was seasoned just right, and the chewy noodles paired mala and cream well. For a fresh, not-too-heavy Korean meal at Times Square, Gangmun Times Square Branch is a good choice.

Summer-diet cedar-steam buffet with friends in Hwajeong: Pyeonbaek

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Ilsan Hwajeong Branch is an all-you-can-eat cedar-steam and shabu-shabu restaurant on the 3rd floor of the ABC Mart building on the Rodeo Street near Hwajeong Station in Goyang. Getting ready for a summer diet, the writer went with friends on a weekday evening, wrapped the cedar steam, said to be steamed with 12 herbal ingredients, in rice paper, then refilled a half katsuo, half spicy mushroom shabu-shabu twice. Because diners can start with the protein-heavy cedar steam, Pyeonbaek Hoegwan is an all-you-can-eat spot that feels easy on a diet.
