Naju is right next to Hampyeong, my in-laws' town, and it has a lot of great restaurants so I go often haha. Among those areas, the Innovation City side has especially good spots! I was looking for a menu that grandfather, son, and grandson — three generations — could all eat happily, and shabu-shabu felt just right. So we visited Yuyu Shabu in Naju Innovation City~

Parking and exterior, the free 2nd floor lot is a bit tight

For parking at Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch, you can park in front of the store or in the nearby alley if there's space. Walk a bit further and there's plenty of free street parking along the main road too, so you don't need to worry too much.

There's also a parking lot in the building, but from the 3rd floor up it's hotel parking, so if you go up through the open barrier you'll have to pay. Parking support doesn't apply from the 3rd floor up, and the 2nd floor has free parking with no barrier. The 2nd floor lot is a bit small though — we went to check and there was no space, so we parked on the main road nearby haha.

The sign at Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch is quite sleek too. It's written in English, so you'll find it easily! Haha.

There was a menu board with pictures out front too, so we could check the menu before going in.

There are also waiting seats inside the store, so if there happens to be a wait, you can sit and cool off for a bit. With a baby chair too, it seems like a great place for families to visit.

Interior and the curtained room

Every table at Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch has its own induction burner, and the kitchen is completely open. We were basically the last customers there so we stayed until closing haha. Once the other guests left, I could comfortably take photos of the inside.

There are cute round lights above each table. The tables are wood, adding a touch of warm vibes. An open kitchen probably means the owner is confident in the food!!! There's also a separate room available for a more private meal.

Entrance to the private room screened off by a curtain

There wasn't a separate door, but the curtain alone made it plenty private! Inside, there's a long table that seats about 8 people with 2 induction burners built in.

The lighting is soft and the atmosphere is lovely. It seems like a lot of thought went into the interior. There's louvered paneling up top and a painting behind completes the look haha.

The menu board: the difference between basic shabu, Yuyu shabu, and half-and-half shabu

Menu board listing basic shabu, Yuyu shabu, and half-and-half shabu

Looking at the menu board at Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch, the shabu options were basic shabu, Yuyu shabu, and half-and-half shabu, plus king scallop shabu and hamo (pike conger eel) shabu. Yuyu shabu has more fish cake, rice cake, tofu skin, and so on than the basic shabu, and we went with half-and-half shabu! Half-and-half shabu is also Yuyu shabu, but with a mild broth and spicy broth split in one pot.

What we ordered and the price: ₩66,000 total for 3 people

  • Half-and-half shabu for 3 — ₩57,000
  • Extra serving of meat — ₩7,000
  • Egg porridge — ₩2,000
  • Total — ₩66,000
Basic side dishes served after ordering

After ordering, they gave us the basic side dishes

Special sauce served with the shabu-shabu

and then the sauce — this was genuinely amazing, ugh, so delicious.

Savory salty dipping sauce mixed with egg yolk

You whisk in an egg yolk and dip the veggies and meat in it thoroughly. Dipping into that savory salty sauce felt kind of like sukiyaki?!

The half-and-half broth arrives~ There's also a self-bar where you can refill vegetables and mushrooms! The first setup is done for you by staff.

Half-and-half shabu spread after the first setup

Wow.. so generous 👍

Pot with spicy broth and mild broth side by side

A photo with the half-and-half broth. Great visuals lol. My son couldn't wait to eat lol.

Three fish cakes each skewered with a shrimp

The fish cake with a shrimp skewered into each piece seems to be given according to the number of people ordering! Three adults, so we got three, nicely matched~

King oyster mushroom with 'Yuyu Shabu' written on it haha. Chewy, crunchy white jelly mushroom. Thinly sliced pork neck that's easy to eat — pork neck really is the go-to meat for shabu-shabu~ There's also tofu skin with the Yuyu Shabu letters printed on it haha.

Plate piled high with assorted vegetables

Loads of assorted vegetables too! With shabu-shabu, there's truly no weak link haha. Even I, who doesn't usually eat vegetables well, ate them here!

What's in the unlimited vegetable self-bar

Vegetable self-bar with bean sprouts and mushrooms

The self-bar at Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch has bean sprouts, napa cabbage, bok choy and various mushrooms, kimchi, pickled radish, and broth. I loved being able to eat all the mushrooms I like as much as I wanted haha.

Time to really start eating! The induction can get very hot and may switch off in between, so keep an eye on it 😀

Pot of half-and-half broth simmering

Grandfather enjoyed the spicy broth thoroughly, and my son ate the mild broth really well haha.

Plate of extra ordered pork neck meat

My 5-year-old son was eating so well that we ordered an extra serving of meat~ Dipping the various vegetables, meat, and mushrooms in the special sauce, yum yum.

Kalguksu noodles included with the shabu order

Finishing with kalguksu noodles and egg porridge

At Yuyu Shabu Naju Innovation City branch, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) comes included when you order shabu! The egg porridge is made fresh for you for ₩2,000.

After refilling vegetables and eating multiple rounds, once we started getting full, in went the kalguksu noodles!

We ordered the egg porridge and they prepared it deliciously.

The egg porridge is made fresh by hand, and honestly, the finale of any shabu-shabu really is the egg porridge~

Final table with the egg porridge finish

My son finished off the shabu-shabu, the kalguksu, and the porridge happily haha. Grandfather, my husband, and I all ate well too!
