Seongbok Station noodle and snack spot after a drive: rose tteokbokki

In short

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is a noodle and Korean snack (bunsik) restaurant on the first floor of Seohui Starhills, near Seongbok Station in Suji-gu, Yongin. After a drive, two of us came for a late dinner and shared a pan memil soba set (chilled buckwheat noodles on a tray), rose tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes in a creamy tomato sauce) ordered for the first time, and cheese cutlet jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles); the noodle texture and portions were both satisfying. Chilseong Jemyeonso is a neighborhood Suji favorite worth waiting for, even if you normally avoid queues.

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch: location, parking and dinner waits

Chilseong Jemyeonso (칠성제면소) Suji Main Branch is in the Seohui Starhills commercial building near Seongbok Station, so you can park freely there and drive off when you're done. Lunchtime almost always means a wait, but at dinner, with good timing, you can eat right away.

My partner (my "Lamzzi") and I went for a drive out in the Gyeonggi suburbs for the first time in a while, and we got that awkward half-hungry feeling. Nothing beats Korean snack food for that, so we headed to Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch, our real neighborhood favorite. Lucky us, the dinner timing worked out. Easy parking and an easy exit are part of why we keep coming back.

Chilseong Jemyeonso dining area and table kiosk ordering

The dining area has lots of big tables, and you order and pay in one go at the kiosk attached to each table. Most of the diners are families.

They all look like locals who eat here regularly, so it's a real neighborhood favorite, right??? We also saw other people eating a late dinner like us.

Where is the self-serve bar at Chilseong Jemyeonso?

The self-serve bar is right in front of the kitchen. Grab any extra bowls or utensils your group needs. I think it's especially handy for guests with kids.

We were only two people but ordered three dishes, so we were short on bowls, and it was easy to bring as many as we needed.

The staff cooked fast and brought the food out, and the look of it is no joke, right??? Luckily all three dishes came out in order at the right timing, so we got the full-spread photo and could eat a bit of everything.

Pan memil soba set: how big is it and how does it taste?

The pan memil soba set (판 메밀소바 정식, buckwheat noodles served on a tray with dipping broth) is what Lamzzi usually orders: chewy noodles and a great broth. Even the regular size is enough to fill a grown man by himself, and a cutlet comes as a side.

Lamzzi is so possessed by soba these days that it's no exaggeration, and orders it more and more often. Every time, the noodles are chewy and the praise for the broth is huge.

Lamzzi dumps in all the seasonings provided, wasabi included, generously, and mixes it into the broth. Ready to eat!

Lamzzi dunks the noodles in a few at a time, and says this is why we have to come to Chilseong Jemyeonso regularly, busy slurping away. Even the regular size is filling enough for a grown man to eat alone, so besides the taste, Lamzzi really likes the portion too.

The side pork cutlet that comes with the soba set

The soba set comes with a cutlet as a side, and wrapping the soba noodles around the cutlet is so delicious! Even the salad sauce is a hit, and as for the crispy-outside, juicy-inside cutlet, what is there to say~!~!~!

Dipping it in the cutlet sauce is great too, and everyone already knows Chilseong Jemyeonso is a cutlet place, which is why the cutlet dishes are so popular!!!!!

Rose tteokbokki at Chilseong Jemyeonso: my first taste

I ordered the rose tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes in a creamy tomato sauce) for the first time this visit. A moderate richness and the chewy rice cakes balanced nicely, so it went very well with the other dishes. I'd only ever had regular tteokbokki, so rose was a first, and it being delicious too is just cheating!!!

Cheese cutlet jjolmyeon, my top pick at Chilseong Jemyeonso

The cheese cutlet jjolmyeon (쫄면, chewy spicy cold noodles) tops the noodles with a cheese cutlet, and it was my number one pick that day. A cheese cutlet as a jjolmyeon topping??? Chilseong Jemyeonso really knows its food combos!

The stretchy, savory milky flavor of the cheese and the jjolmyeon's assorted vegetables blended together nicely. For me, who can't eat more than two pieces of cheese cutlet, it's a custom-made dish!!!

The jjolmyeon noodles were so chewy that the texture alone was a work of art. The sauce is the textbook sweet-and-sour, too, so if you asked me to pick the jjolmyeon place in my heart, it would of course be Chilseong Jemyeonso's jjolmyeon.

Is Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch worth the wait?

I've tried a really wide range of dishes at Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch and haven't hit a miss yet. Both flavor and portions are excellent at this Suji snack spot. If even we, who rarely wait in line, gladly wait here, that says it all, right???

If you're in Suji with no appetite and looking for a Korean snack place with a varied menu and generous portions, with roomy seating and easy parking, fill up on a hearty meal at Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch!
