The weather had turned pretty chilly, the kind of day you crave something with warm broth. I heard there was an udon place with lots of Japanese charm at Mokpo Peace Plaza, Udon-i Wanseongdoeda (우동이완성되다), so I went with my husband and Taetae, our baby, the three of us.

The restaurant's exterior is a big yellow building, so you can spot it right away. Since it was raining, it felt even more atmospheric.

Is there a wait? Catch Table reservation tips

When you open the door, there are waiting areas on both sides. (Our Taetae makes an appearance! haha) They also use Catch Table, so reserve at peak mealtimes! I went at a fairly early dinner time, and by the time we finished and left, some people were waiting.

A Japanese-style udon restaurant that's easy with a baby

Inside, the decor is nicely done with Japanese touches all around. The space is roomy, with lots of different kinds of tables.

There are solo seats too, so I think it would be no pressure to come alone. The owner greeted us kindly as soon as we walked in and got a high chair and tableware ready right away, which we really appreciated!

On the table were a menu, water, and fresh flowers at every seat. Seeing real flowers was an unexpected touch that made the mood nicer and put me in a good mood too, haha.

Ta-da!!! Our order arrives!! The look of it was something else from the start. Big bowls with food that looked so delicious..!!

How does the salmon bukkake udon taste?

The salmon bukkake udon (₩14,900) comes with rich tsuyu (soy-based dipping broth), fresh thick-cut salmon, and hand-kneaded udon noodles. It looked so appetizing, and one bite told me this was the real deal.

The salmon was fresh, glossy and big, so I cut it in half to share! haha The noodles are really plump yet chewy, and each strand is long, which makes eating them fun. They were the chewiest, plumpest udon noodles I've ever had. They felt so firm that I think they wouldn't go soggy even after a delivery trip around the block. (Seriously)

How was the clam udon broth on a chilly day?

The clam udon (₩12,900) had a really clean broth with no added seasoning, just the mild flavor of clams. I'd recommend it to clam lovers!

It came with an extra serving of plump noodles on the side, and eating them together warmed me up from the inside. So good.

What comes in the tempura moriawase?

The tempura moriawase (₩10,900) puts sweet potato, chili pepper, oyster mushroom, shrimp and sweet pumpkin tempura on one plate. The batter is thin and crunchy, and each piece has its own charm, so everything was delicious.

The shrimp tempura was really big and substantial, with thin batter and a soft, moist inside. If you find fried food too greasy, try a bite of the chili pepper tempura first. It's a spicy Cheongyang chili, and I enjoyed it.

Small karaage (Japanese fried chicken)

The karaage (Japanese fried chicken, small size) had a crunchy coating with juicy chicken inside. Dipped in the mayo sauce, it wasn't greasy and I kept reaching for more. (Saving this for the review!)

On one side you can see through a window to a staff member kneading the udon dough by hand, which was neat and made me trust the place even more.
