Homaesil fish restaurant, live mackerel sashimi set for 2: Godeungeo

I always thought mackerel sashimi was only possible on Jeju Island or near the seaside, and then I ended up eating fresh mackerel sashimi in Tap-dong, west Suwon!!!!

Where is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, and is there parking?

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점) is at 1731 Seobu-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea (1st floor), and it has a big private parking lot where you can park for free. It opens at 10:40 every day and closes at 22:00 (a sign says hours are extended to 22:00 in summer). Corkage is allowed for a fee, and you can book through Naver Reservation or Catchtable.

This west Suwon restaurant is near Suwon Arboretum, Tap-dong Citizen Farm, Hanbom High School and the Gwonseon-gu Office.

With its roomy private parking lot, it's easy to visit by car.

The mackerel tank at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the tank full of mackerel swimming in a school. This tank is the reason the mackerel sashimi is so fresh.

! ! ! WOW ! ! ! I'd heard mackerel are so jumpy they're hard to keep alive in an aquarium, but the mackerel in this tank are freshness itself. Every single one looks incredible... sorry, but it really made my mouth water... haha

Is the interior spacious? What about groups and families?

It's not just the exterior: the inside of Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is very large too. The tables aren't crammed together, so it feels airy and not stuffy at all. At this size, it looked great not only for company dinners but also for families visiting together on weekends.

You order on the tablet at each table. No need to worry about staff watching while you pick your menu. Very convenient.

The two of us ordered the Myeongpum set (명품정식) for 2 and one cola, for ₩66,000 in total.

Honestly, I agonized a lot while ordering. Can we actually finish the Myeongpum set...?? It looked like so much food, and what if we left some? But,,, that was a pointless worry. We've grown a lot!!!!! Leave some? No way.

How were the self bar and table hygiene?

The self bar at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch had as many side dishes as a decent Korean buffet. While waiting for the food I looked around the self bar and thought, wait, did we come to a Korean buffet?? How is a self bar this good, beating most Korean buffets; the owner is so generous,, if you give this much away, what's left for you?

And now the touching part. Every table has spoons and chopsticks, tissues, wet wipes, soy sauce and wasabi, and who is the person who arranged them so neatly? Look at how tidy it is, not a speck of dust. The hygiene alone already makes this a pass. I really love it. ♥

What comes with the Myeongpum set?

The Myeongpum set for 2 at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch comes with grilled mackerel, grilled Spanish mackerel, bulgogi (marinated beef) and mackerel sashimi. About 10 minutes after we ordered, the table was loaded until it nearly buckled. If you want grilled mackerel, grilled Spanish mackerel and mackerel sashimi all at once, the Myeongpum set is absolutely the right call!

Is the mackerel sashimi fishy?

The mackerel sashimi at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch had no fishy taste at all, and it was rich and nutty with oil. ♥♥♥♥I'm going crazy♥♥♥♥ How is the color of this mackerel so luminous? What's "fishy"? I couldn't taste even a hint of it. It's just freshness itself.

The mackerel tank I saw with my own eyes wasn't a lie. It's cut right after coming out of the tank, so how could it not taste good. It's so delicious!!!! The oil comes up and the nutty flavor just explodes.

Grilled mackerel, grilled Spanish mackerel and bulgogi

The grilled mackerel and grilled Spanish mackerel in the Myeongpum set were big and thick, crispy outside and moist inside. The grilled fish is no joke either. Big, thick, tender, nutty, it does it all by itself. Crispy outside, and the inside holds its juices. Add the bulgogi and finishing a bowl of rice is nothing. Ugh,,, there's so much to praise my mouth hurts,,,

Can two people finish the Myeongpum set for 2?

Two people who normally eat just one serving each cleaned out the Myeongpum set for 2 at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch. We're two people who eat exactly one portion, and if we wiped it out like this,,, do I need to say more? haha The empty bowls prove it's the real deal. Even when I felt ready to burst, I kept eating, it's that kind of irresistible taste.

The restrooms at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch are separate for men and women, and spotless. Perfect to the very end. It's a Homaesil, Tap-dong, west Suwon favorite with a big space, generous portions, and tasty, fresh mackerel. It also seems just right for taking your parents on a weekend or a special day!!!
