Seodaejeon Station galbitang spot: wasabi soy-dipped ribs, Idobonga
In short
Idobonga is a Korean restaurant built around galbi (short rib) dishes, right next to the Seodaejeon Station plaza in Oryudong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. The writer had Idobonga's galbitang (beef short rib soup) topped with big rib bones, deboned the meat first to dip it in wasabi soy sauce, ate it with kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and finished with free after-meal coffee. At ₩16,000 Idobonga's galbitang isn't cheap, but the huge amount of meat makes it a good pick for anyone wanting a filling meal.

When you want a hot, filling meal with big ribs in the broth, Idobonga is a galbitang (beef short rib soup) place worth a look. It's a Korean restaurant with a galbitang packed with huge rib bones and a neat, tidy dining room.
The ribs sticking up out of the earthenware pot and the chopped green onions look so appetizing. I was shocked at how much meat the galbitang had 🤩 Here's Idobonga's atmosphere, menu and galbitang, with photos.
Idobonga location, hours and parking
Idobonga is right next to the Seodaejeon Station plaza, and it's open 11:00-21:00. For parking, use the building's underground parking lot.

Idobonga interior and seating
The first thing you see in the building's corridor is Idobonga's big wood-look sign. The dark exterior with white lettering for the name makes it easy to spot from far away.

At the entrance, photos of signature dishes and a menu guide are posted, so you can see what they serve before going in.

Inside, unlike the exterior, it's bright and clean. White walls and ceiling with black tables and chairs give a tidy feel. Most tables are square and set side by side, and they look easy to push together for bigger groups.

There's also long bench seating with backrests along one wall, which gives a comfortable, clean Korean-restaurant feel. By the window, the big windows give a view of Seodaejeon Station 🚅🤍 and the natural light coming in makes the space even brighter.

Even for a hearty Korean meal like galbitang, a clean interior is nice. Idobonga is a space that doesn't feel overwhelming and lets you focus on eating, so it's worth a look if you like a comfortable Korean restaurant atmosphere.
Idobonga menu and prices
Idobonga serves a range of Korean dishes centered on galbi (ribs), and the galbitang is ₩16,000. The menu runs from regular meals to braised dishes that are good for sharing.

The main menu has the stone galbi set (seokgalbi jeongsik) and scallion bulgogi (pa-chae sobulgogi), both ₩18,000 and noted as orders for 2 or more people. The braised ribs (galbijjim) stood out too: galbijjim, spicy galbijjim and Sura galbi jeongol (galbi hot pot). If you come in a group, picking galbijjim or the galbi hot pot to your taste seems like a good setup.
For individual meals, there's galbitang at ₩16,000, abalone galbitang at ₩21,000, and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and brisket bibimbap at ₩14,000 each. Mountain vegetable bibimbap is ₩11,000, and I liked that there are simple meal options besides galbitang.

You order on the tablet at the table, and you can pick dishes while looking at photos. Galbitang is a basic menu item but also Idobonga's signature meal, so it was a good first choice.
Idobonga galbitang: how much meat do you get?
Idobonga's galbitang comes in a black earthenware pot with huge rib bones sitting on top. The ribs stretching long over the pot grab your eye first.

Unlike a typical gukbap (rice soup), it has big bones, so it looks generous at a glance. Plenty of chopped green onions were on the broth, and underneath the pot was full of ribs and meat.

The deep brown broth with green onions looked really appetizing. With this kind of galbitang, you should first taste the broth's savoriness and the deep flavor from the short ribs, so I tried the broth right away. I love pepper, so I sprinkled some on and deboned all the meat in advance 🦴🦴

So many bones, haha. The amount of meat is seriously huge. When I scooped the meat up with a spoon, I felt like I'd be full on the meat alone.

Sometimes galbitang disappoints with too little meat, but Idobonga's was generous. The rib meat is good torn along the grain or split into bite-size pieces. Soaked in the broth, it's moist, and scooping meat and green onions together balances the flavor nicely.

How to enjoy galbitang: pepper, wasabi soy sauce, kimchi and kkakdugi
Idobonga's tables have a pepper grinder and salt, so you can adjust the seasoning to taste. I dipped the meat in wasabi soy sauce too 🤤
With a hot soup dish like galbitang, kimchi and kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) are a must, right? Eating the rib meat with kimchi, then switching up the flavor with kkakdugi now and then makes a table where you can alternate broth and meat.

Big ribs, plenty of green onions, plus kimchi and kkakdugi: a setup that shows off the charm of a classic galbitang meal.
Is Idobonga's ₩16,000 galbitang worth it?
The most notable thing about Idobonga's galbitang is the huge rib bones and the generous meat. ₩16,000 a bowl isn't light, but it's a dish worth choosing when you look at the amount of meat and the overall setup.

The interior is bright and clean too, so it's a decent option if you want a hearty soup in a tidy Korean restaurant. And Idobonga gives you free coffee after the meal, so you save on coffee!
