Aewol, Jeju soup spot: beef radish soup with wasabi dip — Aewol Eomma
In short
Aewol Eomma (애월엄마) is a Korean restaurant on Iljuseo-ro in Aewol, Jeju, specialising in hangover soup and beef radish soup, open daily from 6am to 3pm. A couple stopped for lunch on their trip and ordered the Aewol Eomma hangover soup (₩15,000), beef radish soup (₩12,000) and 2 fried eggs (₩2,000), and liked the Le Creuset pots that kept the broth hot to the last spoonful, the neat side dishes and portions of more than 1.5 servings. For a balanced hangover soup that spice-shy diners can share and a mild yet deep beef radish soup, Aewol Eomma is a safe choice.

What is Aewol Eomma like?
Aewol Eomma (애월엄마) is a hangover soup restaurant in Aewol, Jeju, that opens at 6am, so it's great for breakfast. Its signature dishes are a hearty hangover soup (haejangguk) slowly simmered from domestic Korean beef bones, and a mild, subtly flavored beef radish soup (soegogi-muguk).

It's said to have received the top rating of 3 stars among the restaurants selected for the "2026 National Favorite Restaurants" list, and I'd recommend it as an Aewol spot where you can enjoy the charm of neat, home-style cooking.

Aewol Eomma location and atmosphere
Aewol Eomma is on Iljuseo-ro in Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, just west of Sineom Middle School. The bright, fresh blue sign catches your eye right away, so it's easy to find.

The inside is bright and clean with a warm feel, the kind of place where you'd want to quietly eat alone.

When we visited, the customers were varied: solo foreign travelers, families with small children, and locals. It was a place where anyone could settle in comfortably, which left an impression.

The signature dish is the Aewol Eomma hangover soup with brisket and offal. There's also brisket hangover soup, offal soup, a mild beef hangover soup, soft tofu stew, and beef radish soup. Having both spicy (red) and mild options so you can choose to your taste is a plus. My husband ordered the Aewol Eomma hangover soup, I ordered the beef radish soup, and we added 2 fried eggs.

How are the side dishes at Aewol Eomma?
The side dishes come out first: stuffed cucumber kimchi (oi-sobagi), napa cabbage kimchi, cubed radish kimchi (kkakdugi) and salted squid (ojingeo-jeotgal).

The cucumber kimchi, cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi and salted squid all taste clean and neat, with seasoning and fermented flavor that isn't overpowering, so they go well with the soup. Every single side dish kept drawing my chopsticks.

Soup served in Le Creuset pots
The main tray at Aewol Eomma comes in Le Creuset pots. Then the main tray arrived, and it was actually Le Creuset pots! I'd already thought the colors of the rice bowls and plates looked clean, but this is clearly a different kind of place. Thanks to the pot, the soup didn't cool down and stayed warm the whole time, which I loved haha.

Aewol Eomma beef radish soup (₩12,000)
The beef radish soup is ₩12,000 and packed with beef and radish. It's my favorite kind of soup but few places sell it, so I picked it without a second thought.

The broth tastes deep and rich, as if it had simmered for a long time. A light base with a subtle savory depth and a moderate kick of spice made it addictive.

Glass noodles (dangmyeon) are in there too, adding a fun chew,

and there's plenty of solid ingredients, so you can eat until you're full.

Dipping the beef in wasabi sauce, then fried egg, then rice. There's no more satisfying meal than this.

Aewol Eomma hangover soup (₩15,000): portion and spice level
The Aewol Eomma hangover soup is ₩15,000, and the big pot is packed full. It felt like more than 1.5 servings, a generous amount.

With brisket and offal added so generously, just fishing out the solids would fill you up.

Plenty of bean sprouts and glass noodles add a variety of textures too,

and the balance of tender brisket and chewy offal is perfect.

Above all, the broth impressed me: spicy-hot yet full of deep savoriness. Rather than harsh heat, the rich meaty flavor and the sharp kick are in balance, so even I, who can't handle spice, shared it and ate well.

When to visit Aewol Eomma on a Jeju trip
Aewol Eomma is about 20 minutes from Jeju Airport and near the Aewol coastal road, so it's a good stop for your first meal after landing, or for breakfast or lunch. It was a hearty, satisfying lunch during our trip. We filled up on home-style side dishes and soup made with care, and I recommend it as an easygoing Aewol spot for breakfast or lunch.
