A charcoal-grill restaurant close to Jayang Station
I met up with my high school friends for the first time in a while. We were looking for a good Korean BBQ place around Jayang Station, found one close to the station that looked promising, and I had to share it!

It was Donstar Charcoal Grill (돈스타 숯불구이)! It seems to be well known as a company-dinner spot near Jayang Station too. When we walked in, it definitely felt like there were lots of office workers around!

Even on a weekday evening, the place was so packed that we might have had to wait if we had not rushed over right after leaving work. The charcoal aroma swept over us the moment we opened the door, and from the entrance alone I could tell this place was the real deal—my expectations went way up.

The charcoal grill was all set up.

It looked like plenty of celebrities had visited too! The walls were filled with signatures. The odds of this being a great restaurant just went up.
Ordering galmaegisal, pork neck, and pork belly

We ordered one serving each of galmaegisal (pork skirt meat), pork neck, and pork belly. The pork neck and pork belly came pre-grilled, while the galmaegisal arrived fresh.

There were plenty of wrap ingredients too. The basic sauces included ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), salted shrimp, and garlic sauce. The mung bean sprout pickles were tangy and such an interesting touch.

Staff grilling from start to finish
The biggest advantage here is that the staff carefully grill all the meat themselves, from beginning to end. The charcoal heat is so strong that it would be easy to burn the outside while leaving the inside undercooked, but they grilled it crisp on the outside and juicy within. So convenient!

For the first bite, I dipped the finished meat lightly in salt, and the burst of juices was no joke. It had no off smell at all, and the chewy yet tender texture had everyone at the table marveling as we dug in enthusiastically.

Nobody had to struggle with the tongs—we could just sit back and eat—so I immediately understood why people rate this place so highly for company dinners near Jayang Station.

The steamed egg we ordered on the side had a mild flavor, which made it a nice match for the meat.

The three of us ordered three servings, but the meat was so good that we added another order of pork neck.

Following the recommended combination written on the wall, we tried the meat with garlic sauce, salted shrimp, and mung bean sprout pickles. Having so many ways to eat it made the meal even more fun.

A dedicated burner for bubbling doenjang jjigae all meal
The meat was excellent, but the real killer feature that completely won me over was the dedicated burner for doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) at the table. Usually, as you eat meat, the stew cools down, fat floats to the top, or it gets too salty. Here, though, there is a separate burner right beside the main grill, so you can keep it bubbling away throughout the meal.

The restaurant was spacious and comfortable, and with the staff's skilled grilling and friendly service, we could eat and chat in total comfort!

If you are looking for a hearty, no-fuss dinner with coworkers after work, or simply want to enjoy delicious meat without the grilling work, Donstar Charcoal Grill could be a great stop.

If you have been looking for a place near Jayang Station that really knows how to grill meat, I hope this visit helps you enjoy a delicious meal.
