Why I went to Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch, a ramen shop near Omokgyo Station

Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is a ramen shop in the basement of the Mokdong SBS building near Omokgyo Station. Today the weather suddenly turned chilly and I was craving ramen, so I searched for ramen spots nearby and found Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch. I'd heard it's less salty than ramen you'd eat in Japan, which sounded nice and light, so I headed straight over haha.

Stepping inside, the clean interior caught my eye right away — especially the partitioned solo seats, perfect for solo dining, so I figured nearby office workers could come and eat at ease haha.

Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is also running a receipt review event — complete a review and you can get a free soda or tamagobap. If you're interested, it's worth joining! The table basics are kimchi and spicy sauce, and you can adjust the amount to taste, which is great.

Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch menu and prices

  • Gyedan Ramen (basic) ₩11,000
  • Motsu Ramen (basic) ₩12,000
  • Tamagobap ₩3,000

The ramen menu at Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch has just two options: gyedan ramen and motsu ramen. I was starving, so I picked ramen first, but out of curiosity I ordered both, and since I'd heard tamagobap (egg rice) pairs well, I ordered that too!

Some ramen shops only give you danmuji (pickled radish), but of course Koreans love kimchi, so being able to eat kimchi freely was a plus.

How was the Gyedan Ramen (basic, ₩11,000)?

All the dishes came out, but I figured it'd be best to try the basic flavor first, so I started with the gyedan ramen haha.

Gyedan ramen broth made from pork and chicken bones

The gyedan ramen broth is simmered carefully for over 14 hours using pork and chicken bones, and maybe that's why it tasted clean yet deep. You can also choose between rich broth and basic broth, so you can pick either Japanese style or Korean style — nice touch.

Gyedan ramen with spicy sauce added and a whole boiled egg

Lastly, I tried adding the table's spicy sauce, and it gave a feel kind of like putting dadaegi (spicy seasoning) into pork bone soup. The egg came in as a whole, not half, so it felt like great value for money haha.

Motsu Ramen (basic, ₩12,000) — how is it different from Gyedan Ramen?

Motsu ramen is the basic gyedan ramen with motsu (offal) added, and in this case it was makchang (grilled pork intestines)! I tried it right after the gyedan ramen haha.

Compared to the gyedan ramen, the motsu ramen had one fewer piece of chashu but more makchang haha. The chashu seemed to use pork belly, so it was thicker and fattier, giving it a savory flavor.

The makchang burst with savory flavor the more you chewed, which boosted the tonkotsu broth's richness haha. Taking a bite of the egg too, the salty flavor and soft texture were excellent — really tasty.

Tamagobap (₩3,000) — is the portion too much for one person?

The tamagobap at Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is ₩3,000, but honestly the portion was way too much to finish alone after ramen. I tried it last, and I think it'd be better to come with someone and share one order!

The owner said it's best eaten mixed into the ramen broth with rice, and the base flavor was slightly sweet and salty, which paired really well with the savory broth haha. If one bowl of ramen isn't enough for you, ordering tamagobap on top is a great idea!

Final thoughts: how is Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch for a Mokdong SBS lunch?

Hearing that a new ramen restaurant had opened near Omokgyo Station, I visited Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch, located in the basement of Mokdong SBS, which also let me glimpse the broadcasting building for a bit. Being in such a large building, the interior and restrooms were well maintained, making it convenient to use.

The seating was quite comfortable and well arranged to suit various kinds of guests, which seemed especially good for solo diners or small groups, and the food came in generous portions for the price with easy-to-eat menu items, great for people who need to eat fast before heading back to work. If you're looking for a ramen restaurant near Omokgyo Station or a lunch spot near Mokdong SBS, Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is worth a visit!
